‘Vision of Sound’ returns to Carrier Theater Feb. 28 - syracuse.com

The Society for New Music presents its 14th Vision of Sound program this Friday, Feb. 28, in the Carrier Theater at the Onondaga County Civic Center in downtown Syracuse.

The Vision of Sound program is a collaboration of new music and dance by regional choreographers and composers, performed by some of the area's best dancers and musicians.

The choreographers come from dance companies and dance faculties across Upstate New York. They are: Lynea D’Aprix and Emma Holynski, Dominique Dawkins and Maya June Dwyer, Syracuse; Cheryl Johnson and Zoe Walder, Rochester; and Kelly Johnson, Geneva.

The music comes from composers living and working in Upstate New York. They are: Mark Olivieri, Geneva; Octavio Vazquez, Rochester; Natalie Draper and Nicolas Scherzinger, Syracuse; Ryan Carter, Clinton; and Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann, Ithaca.

The music is performed by pianist, Rob Auler, Oswego; violinist, Ann McIntyre, and guitarist, Ken Meyer, Syracuse; and cellist, Zachary Sweet, Ithaca.

The program on Friday begins at 7:30 p.m., at the Carrier Theater, 421 Montgomery St., in Syracuse. Repeat performances will be Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., at the Deming Dance Theater in the Performing Arts Center at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, and Sunday, at 3 p.m., in the Linehan Chapel at Nazareth College, 4245 East Ave., Rochester.

Tickets are available online at www.societyfornewmusic.org. For the Syracuse performance, dance students will be admitted for $5 at the door when signing in with their dance studio. Tickets for the Feb. 28 Syracuse performance and the March 1 Rochester performance are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors/students, $40 for a family, 12 and under are free.

Ticket prices at the Hobart and William Smith performance are $12 general admission, $10 seniors, and free for HWS students and under 18.

Also, all Nazareth College students, faculty and staff are admitted free with valid I.D. for the March 1 performance.
