Prospect Park Will Sound Off Lights and Sirens for At-Home Kids' Birthdays, Borough Says - TAPinto.net

PROSPECT PARK, NJ - The borough of Prospect Park has teamed up with the Police and Fire Departments to make some joyful noise for the birthdays of children staying at home.

"We all know how stressful COVID-19 has been for everyone as we are all going through this together and will overcome this pandemic with hope and love as one community," the borough said.

"Our first responders are on the front lines fighting and responding to this pandemic," Mayor Mohamed Khairullah said.  "The fact our police and fire departments also want to find the time to put a smile on our children’s faces for a special day they cannot enjoy as they would before speaks volumes to kind of public servants and community-at-large we have.  We are facing unprecedented obstacles right now, and an initiative such as this proves we are committed to improving the mental health of our community - especially for our children because they deserve it the most. We will overcome this difficult time together with hope and love as one family. A Prospect Park strong family.”

The plan is that between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. each night, the police and fire departments will turn on their lights and sirens to help the kids celebrate their birthdays.

"Members of the Prospect Park Police are humbled to join hands with its community once again," said Prospect Park Police Chief Charlie Atie.  "During these tough times, it would be greatly rewarding to see a smile on people’s faces, especially the young ones! For this reason, we would like to celebrate those who’ve reached another year of life with police sirens, flashing lights, and smiles from our officers.  I would like to wish all the youngsters, a happy birthday in advance. Remember that you are our future."

"We need your help," the borough said.  "We ask that you sign your child up so that we can sound off. Submit your information to us so that we can help bring a little cheer to our town children. Let's celebrate their amazing life and give them a smile on their face. Please submit your information the day before the birthday."

"Sound the alarm grab your gear the Firefighters are here to spread some cheer," said Fire Chief Douglas Struyk.  "Happy Birthday from PPFD."

“This worldwide pandemic has caused our children to have to adjust to drastic changes in such a short amount of time," Daniel Cabrera, Fire Safety Director said.  "We want to let them know that they are not alone and to make them feel special. Children are our future and if we all do a little something to make a difference than our vocation here on earth is done. Stay home, stay blessed and enjoy your time with the most precious gift - family."

For those who want to share their birthday moment with the town, the borough said residents can, "...take a short video or picture and post it to our town's official group page that can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/49039764786/ with the hashtag #prospectparkstrong."
