Georgia landed another big commitment on Saturday -- literally. Dylan Fairchild, a 6-foot-5, 298-pound offensive guard from West Forsyth High School in Cumming, Georgia, pledged to the Bulldogs over offers from several top-tier teams including Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee and others.
"In my opinion, they have recruited me like no other school has, they have made me feel like a priority," Fairchild said, according to 247Sports. "All the pieces are at Georgia right now, if there is one school that heading to win a national championship it is Georgia. I want to be part of that, I don't want to miss something special."
Fairchild is ranked No. 135 overall and seventh-ranked offensive guard in the country in the 247Sports composite rankings. He told 247Sports that earning a degree from Georgia also played a big role in his decision.
"Outside of football, the degree is one of the best ones you can get in the SEC and that really important to me and my family, this was not just a football decision," he said."I think they were all on board, my whole circle is with me in this decision. This is where my family saw me, I will be honest, I didn't see Georgia as much at first as some other schools, but over time , that grew with coach [Kirby] Smart and [offensive line] coach [Matt] Luke especially, it was special with them."
Fairchild has already impressed analysts on the recruiting trail. Charles Power, national writer for 247Sports, compared him to current Detroit Lions offensive lineman Frank Ragnow. Power provided this scouting report on the newest members of Georgia's 2021 recruiting class.
"Has a well-proportioned build with the frame to easily hold over 300 pounds," he wrote. "Leans out during the winter during wrestling season. Strong in the weight room in addition to being an excellent wrestler. Transfers that strength and functional athleticism over to the football field. Works at left tackle and defensive tackle for his high school team. Plays with natural flexibility and bend with the ability to sink his hips and play with a low, centered base. Has high-level reactive quickness in pass protection as he's able to mirror and redirect with ease. Also effective to getting to the second level as a run blocker. Showcases some athleticism as a defensive tackle, particularly via a strong first step that helps him make plays behind the line of scrimmage. Likely projects inside at the next level. Will need to continue improving his upper body play strength and finishing ability, particularly as a drive blocker. Projects as a multi-year Power Five starter along the offensive line with the upside to develop into a NFL Draft pick."
Georgia has moved up to No. 12 in the Class of 2021 team recruiting rankings after Fairchild's pledge. He is the ninth player to commit to the Bulldogs -- eight of whom have four or five stars, according to the 247Sports composite.
