TAMPA — Four people in a stolen car were killed and two more injured when the driver crashed while fleeing from police early Wednesday, authorities said.
Officers spotted a stolen Nissan Altima at the intersection of North Dale Mabry Highway and East Kennedy Boulevard about 2:40 a.m. and attempted to make a traffic stop, according to Tampa police. The driver fled at a high rate of speed and officers began to pursue the car.
Less than two minutes later, the Nissan crashed on West Cypress Street just west of Reo Street, near Cypress Point Park, police said. Officers immediately pulled two people from the sedan and began to render aid while other officers tried to remove four more people still inside the car, police said. Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and pronounced the four people dead.
