Oregon's 2021 recruiting class got a big boost on Friday when Jaylin Davies, a four-star prospect out of Mater Dei (California) High School, committed to the Ducks. Davies, a 6-foot-1, 165-pounder, chose the Ducks over offers from several high-profile west-coast powers including Washington.
Davies is ranked No. 129 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings and is the 15th-ranked cornerback in this recruiting cycle. He announced his decision on Friday in a video posted to Twitter.
It was no contest for Davies, who broke down his reasons for committing to coach Mario Cristobal's program to 247Sports.
"Oregon checked off everything I was looking for," he said. "I love the coaching staff and the fanbase, I think I'll have a good chance to play early there and I think the team has a chance to win a national championship while I'm there. It just feels like family for me and this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up."
Davies posted a 4.69-second 40-yard dash and 4.34-second shuttle run at a regional camp for The Opening in February 2019. Greg Biggins, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, provided this scouting report on the newest Ducks commitment.
"A natural cover corner with good length and is still growing into his body," Biggins wrote. "Long arms, strong in press coverage with the short-area quickness needed to break on the ball. Good not great long speed and, can improve as an athlete but has plenty of time to do so before he hits college. Plays with toughness and is a physical corner who will come up in run support and is an excellent tackler. Is a highly competitive player who likes the challenge of taking on another team's best receiver. Shows good ball skills, is strong in jump-ball situations and has the size and strength to battle with bigger receivers. Projects as a impact upper tier Power 5 starter and future mid-round NFL draft pick."
He is the 14th commitment in Oregon's 2021 recruiting class, 10 of whom are either four- or five-star prospects in the 247Sports composite. The Ducks currently boast the nation's No. 6 recruiting class as well as the No. 2 class in the Pac-12.
