Senior punter Ryan Stonehouse became the first Ram to be named to the preseason Mountain West team -- voted on by media members around the league – for three consecutive seasons. He is joined by wide receiver Warren Jackson, tight end Trey McBride and linebacker Dequan Jackson.
The Rams, who were picked to finish fifth in the Mountain Division by the media on Tuesday, matched San Diego State in representation with the four picks, while Boise State landed eight of the 28 spots. The offensive, defensive and special teams players of the year will be announced Thursday.
Stonehouse – a two-time, first-team All-Mountain West selection -- enters his final campaign as Colorado State's career punting leader with an average of 47.0. The figure also places him as the NCAA's career active leader in the category. A season ago, Stonehouse and the Rams' punt-coverage unit ranked sixth in the country in net punting at 42.3 yards.
Warren Jackson, a senior, led CSU with 77 receptions for 1,119 yards and eight touchdowns a season ago, earning him first-team All-Mountain West honors. He ranked fourth nationally at 111.9 yards per game last season, sixth with 7.7 catches per outing. His biggest night came against New Mexico when he posted nine catches for 214 yards, including an 87-yard scoring catch would stood as the longest scoring play from scrimmage in the conference in 2019, the second longest scoring reception in CSU history.
McBride earned first-team All-Mountain West honors in 2019 after posting 45 receptions for 560 yards and four touchdowns. The junior notched the first 100-yard game of his career the final week, when he had nine catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.
Dequan Jackson returns for his junior season after recording 87 tackles a season ago, good for second on the team. He had 6.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks, registering a pair of quarterback hurries and recovering two fumbles. He is the first CSU linebacker to earn preseason Mountain West honors since Mychal Sisson in the 2010-11 seasons.
