ANN ARBOR, MI -- Ann Arbor is moving forward with four finalists for the city administrator position. The names of the candidates are expected to be announced on Tuesday afternoon.
City council members identified the four candidates out of 10 semi-finalists in a closed session on Monday, Aug. 10. Each of them will be notified Monday evening and will be interviewed by city council, city staff and community members on Thursday, Aug. 20, according to Council Member Jane Lumm.

“As soon as they’re all contacted, their names and biographical information will be made public, and that’s likely to occur tomorrow,” Lumm said.
Additionally, a community survey will be released for the public to provide input on Aug. 20. Based on that feedback, city council on Aug. 24 will determine the next steps, which could be negotiating with a finalist, inviting multiple finalists for additional interviews in September or relaunching the search, Lumm continued.
“I’m glad that we’re going to be moving forward and inviting four candidates to come back to us to interview,” Mayor Christopher Taylor said.
Council in June voted to launch a search to replace former City Administrator Howard Lazarus, who was fired by council in a 7-4 vote in February. Three council members who voted to fire Lazarus — Anne Bannister, Jack Eaton and Jane Lumm — were ousted in this week’s primary and will leave office in November.
Lazarus started a new job in July as executive director of Delaware County, Pennsylvania.
