A man was shot dead early Sunday as four were hit in an attack in Coney Island — which “may have been retaliation” for a nearby murder just 12 hours earlier, according to police.
After another bloody 24-hours in the city Saturday that already saw 18 people injured in 16 separate shootings, police found four men with “various gunshot wounds to their bodies” near to NYCHA housing on Brooklyn’s West 23rd at around 2 a.m., the NYPD said.
Emergency crews raced all four to hospitals, but a 27-year-old man was pronounced dead at NYC Health + Hospitals/Coney Island. He has yet to be identified, pending family notification.
A 36-year-old man also taken to the Coney Island hospital was in a serious but stable condition, as were two others — men aged 35 and 41 — who were taken to NYU Langone-Brooklyn, the NYPD said.
The three survivors were “highly uncooperative,” police said. It was not immediately clear how many had fired shots, and there had been no arrests early Sunday, police said.
Cops fear the murder “may have been retaliation” for an earlier homicide in the same area, a spokesperson said.
Fabian Abney, 20, was found in NYCHA’s Coney Island Houses on West 25th Street with a gunshot wound to his torso just before 2 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Abney — who lived nearby on Mermaid Avenue — was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests had been made.
Late Friday, an e-hail driver was shot during an altercation with a gunman on a bicycle who rolled up to his vehicle in the same area, police had said. The 30-year-old driver was originally listed as being in a stable condition.
The 16 shootings from midnight-to-midnight Saturday — leaving 18 victims — yet again continued the alarming surge of gun crime in the city that has already far exceeded the number for the whole of last year.
It continued after sunrise Sunday, with a 34-year-old man found shot dead in Queens Village just after 7.a.m., the force said.
Officers from the 105 Precinct found the victim “unconscious and unresponsive” on 112th Avenue close to Springfield Boulevard with a gunshot wound to the shoulder, the NYPD said.
He was taken to Franklin Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
He was not being identified pending family notification and there had been no arrests, according to the NYPD.
