Report: At least four more Cardinals test positive for COVID-19, game with Brewers postponed - Yahoo Sports

The St. Louis Cardinals had their game agains the Milwaukee Brewers postponed on Friday due to two positive COVID-19 tests, but that might not be the only schedule adjustment they have to endure.

According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, at least four more Cardinals have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total to at least six.

According to The Athletic’s Mark Saxon, most of the positives are staff members.

What happens now?

The Cardinals-Brewers game, scheduled for 7:10 on Saturday night, has reportedly been postponed.

Their Sunday doubleheader (which was making up for the game canceled on Friday night) could also be affected. 20 percent of the league was out of action on Friday due to COVID-19 related issues (Cardinals, Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, Miami Marlins, Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals), and that will also be the case on Saturday.

These positive tests are definitely not welcome news for commissioner Rob Manfred, who reportedly warned the MLB Players Association on Friday that MLB could shut down as soon as Monday if the number of positive tests continued to increase and players didn’t start taking the safety regulations seriously. While some teams have been vigilant in following the protocols, some have been seen spitting and high fiving, which is not allowed in the protocols.

Good news for Marlins, Phillies

Nearly a week after MLB’s COVID-19 nightmare began with the Marlins and Phillies, there’s finally a little good news for those teams. The Phillies announced on Saturday morning that there were no new positive tests among players or staff, so the players would finally be allowed back into Citizens Bank Park for staggered workouts.

The Phillies haven’t played since July 26, the day that three Marlins players tested positive and MLB allowed their game to be played. Phillies and Marlins players have been self-isolating ever since, and while the Phillies saw just three positives (one coach and two staff members), 18 Marlins players would test positive by Friday.

The Marlins have not made an official announcement about their most recent round of testing, but Jon Heyman reported that it turned up no new positives.
