West Columbia, SC - Sixty-four Lexington Two high school students earned scores high enough on multiple AP exams to be named AP Scholars, with one earning National AP Scholar, a distinction given to fewer than 1 percent of students nationwide.
The Advanced Placement (AP) Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP exams. AP Scholars are those students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.
Brookland-Cayce High School student Joseph Buchmaier was awarded National AP Scholar, a top award given to those who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
Ten other Lexington Two students were named AP Scholars with Distinction, given to students who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. They are Brookland-Cayce High School’s Jimmy Cao, Esther Lam, Ma'Liah Maddox, Alexis Spainhour and Brayden Waters; and Airport High School’s Rose Branton, Sydney Coleman, Austin Lucas, Brycen Redmond, and Jordan Shetrone.
Eleven other Lexington Two students were named AP Scholars with Honor, given to students who receive an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams. They are Brookland-Cayce High’s Samantha Breese, Amanda Lam, Sharon Rose Mukendi, Ben Welch and Katelyn Welch; and Airport High’s Rosemarie Caballero, Tobias Holloway, Ricardo Morales Gonzalez, William Simms, Parker Whittle, and Liana Wiley.
Forty-two other Lexington Two students were named AP Scholars: Brookland-Cayce High’s Claire Adkins, Ainsley Allen, Gretchen Berry, Jacob Blalock, Abigail Boone, Margaret Caldwell, Maria Castaneda, Joe Castles, Eliza Cathcart, Cheyanne Chambers, Nathan Corley, Sydney Davis, Paw Der, Aubrey Ellisor, Callison Fisher, Garrett Galloway, Catherine Hafer, Kaden Hicks, David Hoffman, Cameron Jeffcoat, Brycen Johnson, Hayley Martin, Logan McKnight, Nicole Mouhteros, Rachel O’Dell, Maria Rubio Arteaga, Ada Stiglbauer, and Gavin Taylor; and Airport High’s Antonia Alvarez, Aylin Arellano-Bernal, Frances Bishop, Lucero Contreras, Jasmine deWerdt, Coleman Garner, Katie Kyzer, Tiffany Lin, Sydney Miller, Caroline Reddick, Katelyn Sevinsky, Emily Shafer, Grace Tatum, and Sebastian Yost.
According to College Board officials, students who score a 3 or above on an AP exams demonstrate college-level mastery of the subject and will typically earn college credit at most colleges and universities. The Lexington Two students learned of their AP Scholar designations earlier this school year.
