
BELMONT – A four-alarm fire in the Belmont hills triggered evacuations Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The vegetation fire was reported about 3:45 p.m. near East Laurel Creek Road and San Juan Boulevard. Just after 5 p.m., the San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department announced in a tweet that forward progress of the fire had been stopped.
“Crews will be extended on scene to assure all hot spots are put out,” the fire department said.

About 4:15 p.m., evacuations were ordered for San Juan Canyon, from East Laurel Creek Road to Cipriani Boulevard, according to the Belmont Police Department. Residents were permitted to return at 9 p.m.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
