DURHAM, N.C. –  The Duke volleyball team secured another big victory Saturday night, taking down NC State 3-1 (25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21) in intense ACC action to close out the opening week of the 2020 season in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

With the victory, the Blue Devils improve to 2-0 overall and in conference play as the Wolfpack dip to 0-2.

Senior Payton Schwantz got it done on all fronts Saturday evening, recording a team-high 14 kills and just two errors for a .300 hitting percentage, eight digs and three blocks. Schwantz now owns 23 kills, 24 digs and six total blocks through two matches.

In addition to Schwantz offensively, junior Ade Owokoniran recorded her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs to go along with two aces and one block. Freshman Gracie Johnson added nine kills, two aces, 11 digs and five blocks in her all-around performance.

Setters Alex Springate and Camille Nazor split time on the court as they dished 19 and 18 assists, respectively, as the Blue Devils hit .178 for the match.

Once again, the Blue Devils put up a solid block at the net with 11 total team blocks to NC State's six. Lily Cooper tallied five block assists to go along with two solo blocks while Johnson recorded five.

For the second match in a row, Duke featured four with double-digit digs led by libero Mackenzie Cole (19), Springate (16), Owokoniran (13) and Johnson (11). Cole owns 38 digs through the first two matches.
Duke opened the match hot, hitting .409 percent with 12 kills and just three errors to limit NC State to a .059 hitting percentage from six blocks.

The second set featured six ties and two lead changes as Duke hit .208 with Owokoniran and Schwantz recording four kills each.

The Blue Devils couldn't hold on in the third set but bounced back in the fourth as rookie Georgia Stavrinides provided a spark off the bench with two blocks to help Duke secure its second victory this season.
The Wolfpack were led by Melissa Evans with 19 kills.

Duke will hit the road for the first time in the 2020 season, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., to take on Virginia Friday and Saturday on ACC Network Extra.
