NORTH RICHMOND — Four of seven people who are alleged to be part of a North Richmond gang that police have linked to at least eight nonfatal shootings and multiple targeted robberies have been ordered to stand trial, court records show.

Kolbert Mattie, 20, Graylen Hunt, 19, Itorius Jones, 21, and Nyjay Maddox, 20, are to stand trial on 23 felony counts that include eight attempted murder charges, a count of conspiracy to commit murder, and a half-dozen robberies or attempted robberies.

The seven were arrested and charged last May, following a Richmond police and FBI-led operation that targeted members of a North Richmond gang known as Jet Life.

Since the arrests, the three other defendants — David Godfrey; Myprecious Mattie, Kolbert Mattie’s sister; and Brittney La Pierre have accepted plea deals. Their sentences range from 74 to 149 days, court records show.

Most of the eight attempted-murder charges stem from shootings that prosecutors say targeted associates or members of central Richmond gangs, including a group that lives near Crescent Park.

The hub of gangs in the small, unincorporated community of North Richmond includes not only Jet Life but also Swerve Team and an older gang known as the Project Trojans. They are commonly collectively known by the slang term “Narf,” and have had longstanding rivalries with gangs in central Richmond, like Deep C or the Crescent Park Villians.

The robbery counts include a home invasion robbery that targeted a Concord resident who operates a cannabis business in Richmond, as well as a man who was robbed of his Rolex watch in Walnut Creek, by people who police suspect followed him from home in a neighboring city.

Maddox, rapping under the stage name “Triggaz” allegedly posted a video with the lyrics “make him take the Rolee off the wrist,” which police submitted as evidence of the robbery. Godfrey also posted a picture of himself wearing a similar watch, but he wasn’t in possession of it when police pulled him over a short time later, court records allege.

The four active defendants pleaded not guilty at their arraignment hearing earlier this month, prosecutors said.
