MORLEY — Another volleyball season has come and gone for the Mohawk ladies of Morley Stanwood and, as is typically the case, a handful of student-athletes have received individual honors.

Four different MS players received either First Team All-Conference or honorable mention recognition, including juniors Braelyn Berry and Emilee Cornell in addition to seniors Landrie LaPreze and Brooke Brauher.

Braelyn Berry: The junior outside hitter received First-Team All-Conference honors for her efforts this season — her third consecutive season earning the award.

“Braelyn has continued to develop herself as a leader to accompany her high level of skill and athleticism on the floor,” MS coach Robin Kozuch said. “Her knowledge of the game is very impressive. I often discuss scouting reports with her and make tactical decisions with her help. She will do great things in the future.”

Berry had 419 digs and 312 serving aces in 2020.

Landrie LaPreze: Earning First-Team All-Conference honors for the Mohawks was senior setter and opposite hitter Landrie LaPreze.

It’s her second time to receive the honor during her Morley Stanwood volleyball career.

During the season, LaPreze turned in 330 assists, 135 digs and 79 kills.

“Landrie is a passionate volleyball player with an amazing skill set as a setter; I have had many college level refs compliment on her setting technique,” Kozuch said. “She has had to overcome injuries multiple times and it truly has made her a stronger athlete because of it. “She is also a dynamic attacker and was one of the main reasons we won our first round of the State tourney against a very talented Beal City. Her leadership and positivity will be greatly missed.”

Brooke Brauher: Earning her fourth All-Conference honor was senior middle-hitter Brooke Brauher.

Serving the ball this season, Brauher totaled 361 aces and 318 kills.

“Brooke has grown tremendously in her four years on the varsity team,” Kozuch. “She has become a great leader on the court and a consistent threat to every opponent we play both offensively and defensively. She will be greatly missed next year. She will be playing basketball at Trine next year and is currently in discussion with the school on the possibility of playing volleyball as well.”

Emilee Cornell: The junior setter had herself a quality campaign and, in the process, has set herself up to have a productive senior season next time around.

With 43 kills, 180 digs and 448 assists, Cornell made her presence felt on the court throughout the season, grabbing an All-Conference honorable mention along the way.

“For someone so small, she plays with the heart and toughness of a lion,” Kozuch said.“I am always hard on my setters and Emillee has proven to be tough and continue to work to be the best possible setter she can be. Her defense has improved tremendously this year and she had a serve that is difficult for other teams to handle. She will be key to our success next year.”

As a team, Morley Stanwood went 23-9 overall, including 6-1 against teams from the CSAA Silver to finish the year atop the conference.

The Mohawks’ season eventually came to an end with a four-set loss to Granville Calvin-Christian in the Division 3, Region 19 championship match on Nov. 12.
