Four arrested after stolen vehicle chase in Shawnee Co. on Christmas - WIBW

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Shawnee Co. Sheriff’s Office arrested four suspects after two vehicles were stolen on Christmas.

The Shawnee Co. Sheriff’s Office says four people are in custody and are facing multiple charges after two vehicles were reported stolen from a business in the 3000 block of SW 57th St. on Christmas morning.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, on Friday, Dec. 25, at 8:40 a.m., the Shawnee Co. Emergency Communications Center was given notice that two vehicles were stolen from a business. It said one vehicle was a 2006 Ford F350 and was located northbound on SW Topeka Blvd. It aid the driver failed to stop, which started a short chase. It said the Ford F350 was found abandoned in the 500 block of SW 14th St.

The Sheriff’s Office said the other vehicle was a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 and was located in the 7000 block of SW Sixmile Creek Rd. It said the Kansas Highway Patrol Air Support Unit quickly responded. It said with the help of multiple law enforcement officers, a Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit and helpful residents, four suspects were found hiding nearby. It said the KHP Air Support Unit used a FLIR, thermal imaging camera, to find all four suspects from above. It said multiple vigilant residents called and reported descriptions and information.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, its K9 unit tracked two suspects, one of which was hiding behind a shed in cedar trees. It said the K9 engaged and apprehended the suspect.

The Sheriff’s office said Jason C. Hokanson, 34, of Topeka, Christopher G. Clark, 31, of Maple Hill, Andrea D. Green, 26, of Maple Hill, and Brooks R. Vonthaer, 26, of Topeka, were all taken into custody and transported to the Law Enforcement Center for more questioning. It said all four were charged with burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and conspiracy.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Green also had two arrest warrants out for her arrest. It said all suspects were booked into the Shawnee Co. Department of Corrections and both stolen vehicles were returned to their owner.

The Sheriff’s Office said the incident is a great example of various agencies combining their resources and working with timely information from vigilant residents to apprehend several suspects. It said along with deputies from the Shawnee Co. Sheriff’s Office and K9 Units, Sheriff Hill would like to thank troopers from the KHP, especially the Air Support Unit, and the Topeka Police Department for their assistance.
