NAVAL AIR STATION WHIDBEY ISLAND — The U.S. Navy has announced that it began real-time sound monitoring at NAS Whidbey Island during the week of Sunday, Dec. 13 through Saturday, Dec. 19.
The service was directed to monitor sound levels at 11 sites in proximity to Ault Field and Outlying Field Coupeville by the fiscal year 2020 National Defense Authorization Act.
The Navy will also continue to collect data at a 12th site located in Olympic National Park.
According to a press release, the first week of monitoring included a range of flight activity including four days of high activity levels, a moderate-level day and low-level flight activity on the weekends.
The collected data will not be released to the public until after the Navy submits a final report on the year-long monitoring program.
