• The ACC continues to place four teams among the top 15 of the NWCA Coaches’ Rankings. NC State remains at No. 4, followed by No. 8 Virginia Tech, No. 12 Pitt and No. 14 North Carolina.
• Friday night’s ranked matchup between Pitt and NC State in Raleigh highlights the weekend slate and is scheduled to be the first match carried this season as part of ACC Network's Friday Night Duals lineup. Virginia Tech's road match at UNC last Friday night (Jan. 15) was scheduled to be the Duals opener, but that contest was postponed due to COVID 19 restrictions.
• Other ACC action lined up for this weekend includes a pair of rivalry matches on Friday evening as Virginia travels to Virginia Tech, while Duke plays host to North Carolina.
• Two ACC wrestlers' performances from last Friday are listed among the week's top 10 nationally by The Open Mat, including ACC Wrestler of the Week Jake Keating of Virginia's 4-3 win over NC State's Thomas Bullard in a battle of ranked wrestlers at 165 pounds (above). NC State true freshman Ed Scott's 14-1 major decision over Virginia's Denton Spencer at 149 ranked 10th.
• NC State currently owns the nation’s longest dual-match winning streak with 20 consecutive victories, including last season’s perfect 15-0 mark. Over the last six seasons, NC State has won 27 of its 29 duals on the road, and the Pack is also 10-2 in road duals vs. ranked foes during that span.
• Virginia 197-pound senior Jay Aiello has now won his match in 23 consecutive duals dating back to the 2019 season. His last loss in a dual came against then No. 9 Tom Sleigh of Virginia Tech (Jan. 12, 2019).
• Thirty-two ACC wrestlers are ranked among the nation’s top 20 in their respective weight classes by Intermat, including 16 among the top 10 and nine among the top five.
• Virginia Tech redshirt sophomore Mekhi Lewis, who captured the 2019 national championship at 165 pounds, remains No. 1 in that weight class. North Carolina’s Austin O’Connor is ranked No. 1 at 149 pounds. NC State senior Hayden Hidlay (157 pounds) and Virginia Tech’s Hunter Bolen (184) are ranked No. 2, while Virginia’s Jay Aiello (197) is at No. 3.
• Dating back over the last six seasons, NC State has been ranked among the top 10 teams in 77 straight NWCA coaches' national rankings.
