SANTA CRUZ — Four juveniles were arrested Friday in connection with a shooting on the 100 block of Hagemann Avenue, the Santa Cruz Police reported.
Police initially responded to a report of a man shot in the abdomen about 3:15 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. The man, 34, was transported to a Bay Area trauma center. His name is being withheld.
The reported drive-by shooting occurred halfway between Soquel and Forest avenues, with a suspected shooter driving a dark four-door Mercedes sports car. Witnesses initially described the driver as being alone in the car and wielding a shiny silver handgun.
Santa Cruz Police Department issued an all-agency assistance request for the North County while officers tailed several vehicles fitting the suspected shooter’s description. The alert was canceled around 4 p.m. After police in Watsonville pulled over a similar vehicle. Santa Cruz Police Chief Andy Mills confirmed that several people had been taken into custody, but said it was not immediately clear if one was suspected of being the shooter.
The preliminary investigation by Santa Cruz Police detectives revealed that a distinctive black colored four-door vehicle with multiple occupants was seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed, according to the report.
Officers broadcast that information to other Santa Cruz County law enforcement agencies in an attempt to locate the vehicle. A short time later, the suspected vehicle was located in South Santa Cruz County by a California State Parks ranger. Members of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Team stopped the vehicle and detained the four juvenile occupants. Members of the Watsonville Police Department Special Investigations Unit also responded and assisted with the investigation. Evidence linking the occupants to the shooting, including a firearm, was recovered from the vehicle, according to police.
All four male juvenile subjects were booked into Juvenile Hall on charges of attempted murder with a gang enhancement.
Friday’s shooting comes less than 24 hours after Santa Cruz’s last shooting, during which an 18-year-old man was injured Thursday night near Garfield Park."four" - Google News
