A local physician is Super Bowl-bound.
Dr. Clifton Molak, a resident who practices radiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, is among the roughly 7,500 vaccinated first responders chosen to receive a free Super Bowl ticket and game-day experience. The vast majority of those first responders are based in or near Tampa, Fla.
On Feb. 7, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will host the Kansas City Chiefs at Raymond James Stadium.
Each NFL club outside the region will send four first responders to the game. All Cowboys representatives live in Texas and work for Baylor Scott and White Health. Molak, 29, is the only one who lives in the Dallas/Fort Worth area; the others are based in College Station, Marble Falls and Round Rock.
Molak, a San Antonio native and Cowboys fan, moved to Dallas in 2019.
“I have never been to a Super Bowl before,” Molak said in a phone interview. “I’ve never been to a playoff game. I think I’ve been to one Cowboys game. ...It means a lot. I’m incredibly grateful to the NFL and the Cowboys for reaching out and providing us with this opportunity.
“I feel incredibly lucky to be the one that was randomly selected to go. I don’t feel like I myself am special in any way. It’s a shame that more of my colleagues couldn’t attend and couldn’t experience this with me. Overall, I’m extremely excited and extremely grateful.”
The vaccinated first responders will be guests at the Super Bowl in recognition of their work to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
Along with a free ticket, the Cowboys provided their four recipients complimentary air travel from partner American Airlines, a bed from partner Sleep Number and $500 cash gift card. The team also announced plans to provide game-day food and team apparel for hundreds of workers at Irving Baylor Scott & White Hospital.
“The Super Bowl has yet to be played, but we already know who our true MVPs are,” said Charlotte Jones, Cowboys chief brand officer, in a statement. “These men and women have selflessly placed the care and comfort of their COVID-19 patients at the forefront of their lives and their professions.
“They represent a handful of the thousands of healthcare workers across our country who exemplify commitment, determination, trust and hope. Their contributions will never be forgotten.”
