Minnesota United brings back four players - Brainerd Dispatch

Minnesota United announced Tuesday four players have re-signed with the club, including Woodbury, Minn., center back Brent Kallman.

The three others are midfielder Jacori Hayes, center back Callum Montgomery and goalkeeper Adrian Zendejas. Terms of their contracts weren’t immediately known. When sharing season-ending roster moves on Dec. 11, the Loons said they were negotiating new deals with Hayes and Kallman, among others.

Minnesota continues to work on bringing defensive midfielder Ozzie Alonso back for the 2021 season, but the club has moved on from retaining central midfielder Marlon Hairston, who played 446 minutes in 11 games.

United tried to bring back attacking midfielder Kevin Molino and striker Luis Amarilla but were unsuccessful. Molino went to Columbus Crew, and Amarilla returned to Ecuador on a loan with Liga de Quito.

In this bunch of re-signings, Hayes made the biggest impact on the pitch for the Loons in 2020, playing 753 minutes across 13 games in all competitions. The 25-year-old out of Wake Forest had two goals, including one in the knockout rounds of the MLS is Back Tournament in August.

Kallman, who has been with his hometown club since 2013, played only four games in 2020 as the 30-year-old dealt with a suspension, injuries and was loaned to USL side El Paso Locomotive during the summer. But in the club’s push to the MLS Cup Playoffs, he put in three 90-minute shifts in the last three games of the regular season in October and November.

Minnesota acquired Montgomery, 23, after the 2020 season, giving FC Dallas a fourth-round pick in 2022 and $50,000 in General Allocation Money. He played 808 minutes in nine games with San Antonio FC in the USL Championship last year.

The Loons picked up Zendejas, 25, from Nashville in September, giving up a fourth-round pick in 2021 draft and $50,000 in GAM. He didn’t play for Minnesota last season as he provided depth after starting ‘keeper Tyler Miller was lost for the season with surgeries to his hips and Dayne St. Clair stepped in for the res of the season.
