CORAL SPRINGS, FL - Florida Power & Light is looking to increase monthly electrical bills through 2025 as part of the company’s four-year rate plan submitted to regulators.
Based on a news release from FPL, rate hikes presented to the Florida Public Service Commission would mean typical residential customers would see their bills go up by 18 percent during those years, from $99.05 this year to:
- $109.58 in 2022
- $113.49 in 2023
- $115.61 in 2024
- $117.06 in 2025
For small and medium businesses, typical bills are projected to grow at an average annual rate of about 3.9 percent to 4.4 percent through 2025, the company said.
According to FPL, these increases would bring in just under $2 billion to help pay for $29 billion in improvements that include reducing emissions and making the electric service better equipped to withstand outages during storms.
The company said its typical residential customer bills are expected to remain well below the national average through 2025, even with the proposed rate adjustments.
Florida Public Service Commission is expected to make a decision on FPL’s rate plan in the coming months.
