Sound of Metal may have earned just one Golden Globe nomination, but the film came back with the vengeance at the 2021 Oscar nominations this morning. The music drama earned six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor for Riz Ahmed, and Best Supporting Actor for Paul Raci. Sound of Metal is also nominated in various technical categories, where the film is currently a frontrunner, but will the drama be able to sustain its lengthy awards campaign through the finish line?

WHAT IS SOUND OF METAL ABOUT?
Directed and co-written by Darius Marder, Sound of Metal centers on a heavy metal drummer named Reuben (played by Riz Ahmed) who begins to suddenly lose his hearing. Within days, Reuben’s life changes forever, and the film follows him as he attempts to adjust to his new normal.
