Four Named Finalists for Stats Perform National FCS Major Awards - Patriot League Official Athletic Site

DeMorat, Greenhagen, Sluka and Cecchini among the finalist for national awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four Patriot League football major award winners were named among the finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Awards when they were announced on Monday.
 
Fordham junior quarterback Tim DeMorat was named one of 16 finalists for the Stats Perform FCS Walter Payton Award, which is annually presented to the national offensive player of the year in college football’s subdivision. Rams’ junior linebacker Ryan Greenhagen was selected as one of 16 finalists for the Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan Award, presented to the national defensive player of the year at the FCS level.
 
Holy Cross freshman quarterback Matthew Sluka was named a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award, given to the FCS national rookie of the year. Bucknell second-year Head Coach Dave Cecchini is a finalist for the Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award for FCS coach of the year.
 
A 40-member national media panel will select the winners from the unprecedented 2020-21 season, which has spanned the fall and spring semesters. The four award recipients plus the Stats Perform FCS Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be announced next month – the Rice on May 3, the Eddie Robinson on May 4, the Doris Robinson on May 5 and both the Payton and Buchanan on May 15.
 
2020-21 Stats Perform FCS Walter Payton Award Finalist
Tim DeMorat, Fordham, Jr., QB, Merritt Island, Fla./Viera
2020-21 Stats: 93-for-129 passing for 1,049 yards, 5 TDs, 3 INTs, 148.5 pass efficiency
*DeMorat earned First-Team All-Patriot League honors for the second time after leading the League and ranking seventh in the FCS with 349.7 passing yards per game. He threw a League-high five touchdown passes and rushed for two more scores.
*The junior signal-caller helped the Rams’ offense pace the Patriot League and place among the FCS’s top-20 in scoring offense (31.7 pts/gm) and total offense (433.3 yds/gm).
*The Merritt Island, Fla. native is 10th among active FCS quarterbacks in passing yards (5,356) and 23rd in passing efficiency (127.44).
 
2020-21 Stats Perform FCS Buck Buchanan Award Finalist
Ryan Greenhagen, Fordham, Jr., LB, Sparta, N.J./Pope John XXIII
2020-21 Stats: 2 games, 22 tackles, 11.0 tackles per game, 1 pass breakup
*Greenhagen, a three-time All-Patriot League selection, led the League with 11.0 tackles per game after posting a League-high 123 tackles in 2019.
*The junior linebacker posted a League single-game high of 16 tackles in the Rams’ 40-8 victory over Colgate.
*He is second among active FCS players with 1.37 tackles for loss per game through 26 career games.
 
2020-21 Stats Perform FCS Jerry Rice Award Finalist
Matthew Sluka, Holy Cross, Fr., QB, Locust Valley, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial
2020-21 Stats: 212 rushing yards and four touchdowns, 10-for-14 passing (71.4 percent) for 111 yards, two touchdowns, one interception
*Sluka rushed for two touchdowns and threw for a third to lead Holy Cross to a Patriot League Championship and an automatic berth into the FCS Playoffs.
*Sluka earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week on March 29 after rushing for a pair of touchdowns and throwing for a third score in a comeback win over Fordham.
*His 151 rushing yards against the Rams was the most by a Holy Cross rookie since 1976.
 
2020-21 Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award Finalist
Dave Cecchini, Bucknell
*The second-year head coach led the Bison to the South Division title and a berth in the 2020-21 Patriot League Football Championship Game.
*The Bison found a variety of ways to win, totaling 415 yards of total offense in a 38-13 victory over Lafayette and holding Lehigh to 190 yards of total offense in a 6-0 shutout win over Lehigh.
*Bucknell’s defense held opponents to 14.3 points while maintaining a +3 turnover margin, forcing seven turnovers in three games.
