Four people escaped a vehicle fire Monday on the Garden State Parkway.
Pleasantville resident James Pressley was traveling south on the parkway in Galloway Township around 4:40 p.m. when he saw a spark come from the front of an SUV.
The driver pulled over, but Pressley said the occupants remained in the vehicle.
He then ran up to the burning SUV to help the four people out of the vehicle, and called 911.
The three women and a man were heading to Atlantic City from New York, he said.
“My only concern was to get the people out before the truck exploded,” Pressley told BreakingAC. “Prayerfully someone would do the same for me or my family.”
With the four out safely, one thought to go back in but Pressley stopped him.
“My daughter was really scared,” he said of 8-year-old Dream. “She said, ‘Why would he want to go back in the fire for a suitcase that can be replaced?'”
State Police did not immediately return a request for details.
