suaralifestyle.blogspot.com
DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University baseball team returns to Ralph McKinzie Field this weekend for a four-game Mid-American Conference series against the Ohio Bobcats beginning Friday at 2 p.m.

On Saturday, the two teams will play two seven-inning games beginning at 12 p.m. Sunday's series finale has a 12 p.m. first pitch.

NIU (5-21, 4-8 MAC) looks to get back on track after dropping three games at Southern Illinois last weekend to the Salukis and Bellarmine. The Huskies scored 20 runs in the three games with Kam Smith (Colonial Beach, Va./The Steward School), Nick Drobushevich (Moline, Ill./Moline) and Brendan Joyce (South Elgin, Ill./Parkland College) combined for six home runs and 13 RBI in the series in Carbondale.  Smith, who leads NIU with a .354 batting average and is second in the MAC in home runs, had three long balls over the weekend as he slugged 1.085 for the three games.

The Huskies have won each of the last four meetings against Ohio, sweeping the 2019 three-game regular season series in DeKalb and winning 6-3 in an elimination game at that year's MAC Tournament. The Bobcats are 9-7 in the MAC after sweeping last weekend's series against Eastern Michigan. Ohio won each of the last three games against the Eagles last week by one run. The Bobcats' pitching staff is fourth in the league in strikeouts with 225. Junior Joe Rock is second in the MAC with a 1.43 ERA and fifth in strikeouts with 55.

Due to COVID restrictions, attendance at Ralph McKinzie Field at this time is limited to 165 fans. Entrance will be allowed on a first to come general admission process through the North gate on the first base side of the field. The North gate will open 30 minutes prior to first pitch each day. NIU Athletics reserves the right to reserve some attendee spots for parents of NIU Baseball student-athletes if necessary on gameday.

Masks must be worn while inside Ralph McKinzie Field and self-monitored general admission social distancing will be required. A limited concession menu will be available. Some areas near the dugouts or other team areas previously open to the public will be restricted as additional COVID precautions. The pet area will also be moved to down the third base side of the field.

Each game this weekend will be shown on NIUTube on NIUHuskies.com, the Huskie all-access channel. Subscriptions are available for purchase on a daily ($6.95), monthly ($10.95) or annual basis and provides access to all home NIU Athletics events streamed on the website for the purchase period.
