SCENE SETTER: No. 28 Wichita State (19-9, 7-1 American) will look to build on its seven-game winning streak when it travels to New Orleans, La., to take on the Tulane Green Wave (14-13, 3-1 American) in a four-game conference series April 16-18 at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium. The Shockers and Green Wave are slated to play a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday, April 16, to open the series, before playing a 4 p.m. game Saturday, April 17, and the series finale at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, April 18.

SHOCKER BASEBALL ON THE RADIO AND ESPN PLUS: KFH 97.5 FM/1240 AM will air the series at Tulane. "The Voice of the Shockers" and Pizza Hut Shocker Sports Hall of Famer Mike Kennedy will call the action, beginning with the pregame show approximately 20 minutes prior to first pitch ... SERIES HISTORY: The four-game series at Tulane will mark meetings 15-18 in the all-time series that dates back to 1993. The Green Wave lead the series, 9-5. Since joining The American prior to the 2018 season, Wichita State is 3-3 against Tulane. The last time the two teams met was in New Orleans in 2019, with the Green Wave winning two of three games. WSU won game won a wild game one, 12-11 in 11 innings, before dropping games two and three, 12-6 and 8-4.

SHOCKER NOTES: The 28th-ranked Shockers enter the week with an overall record of 19-9 and are 7-1 in The American after sweeping a four-game series against Houston in Wichita April 9-11 ... It was the first sweep of a conference series since Wichita State joined the conference in 2018 ... WSU has won seven straight games and 11 of its last 12 contests ... The Green Wave have not played since winning three of four games against Memphis April 1-3 in New Orleans ... Tulane was scheduled to play at South Florida for four games April 9-11, but the series was postponed due to COVID-19 issues within the USF program ... Through 27 games, the Green Wave are led offensively by redshirt sophomore infielder Collin Burns (.354 avg., 30 R, 40 H, 11 2B, 3 3B, 1 HR, 14 RBI, .531 SLG%, 10 BB, .419 OB%, 12 SB) and redshirt junior catcher Luis Aviles (.273 avg., 27 H, 11 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 23 RBI, .495 SLG%, 12 BB, .368 OB%) ... Burns is fourth in the conference in batting average ... WEEKLY HONORS: Jace Kaminska and Hunter Gibson both received weekly honors from The American for the week of April 5-11. Kaminska was named the conference's Pitcher of the Week, while Gibson was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll. Kaminska earned his first-career pitcher of the week award after throwing a complete game in the Shockers' 10-1 victory over Houston April 10 at Riverfront Stadium in downtown Wichita. He allowed just one earned run on six hits with a career-best seven strikeouts and only two walks as he went the full nine. Gibson secured his first-career weekly honor roll accolade after batting .500 with eight hits in 16 at bats in Wichita State's four-game sweep of Houston April 9-11. He scored four runs and tallied a double, homer (grand slam), eight RBI, two walks, a .750 slugging and .600 on-base percentage in four games.

RANKED: Wichita State is back in a national poll for the first time in 2021, as it entered the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 poll Monday at No. 28. The Shocker also received eight votes in the USA Today Division I Baseball Coaches' Poll. WSU finished the shortened 2020 season ranked 30th in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper final poll.

SHOCKERS IN THE RPI: Wichita State enters the four-game series at Tulane ranked 45th in the latest NCAA Division I Baseball RPI. The Shockers are the second-highest ranked team in The American in RPI, trailing only ECU, which checks in at sixth. Tulane is the only other American Athletic Conference team in the top-100, clocking in at 93rd.

ON A ROLL: Since falling to FIU, 9-2, in DeLand, Fla., March 21, the Shockers have won 11 of their last 12 games, including going 7-1 in eight consecutive games against Houston. Over the last 12 games, WSU is outhitting its opponents, .300 to .183, and has a team ERA of 1.89 compared to 6.89 for its adversaries. The Shockers have also excelled defensively, posting a .989 fielding percentage with just five errors compared to 24 miscues and a .942 fielding percentage for their opponents.

GLOVE WORK: In its four-game series sweep of Houston April 9-11, the Wichita State defense did not commit an error, posting 102 putouts on 138 chances with 36 assists. Overall, on the season, WSU's .979 fielding percentage leads the conference and is 16th-highest in NCAA Division I baseball.

RIVERFRONT MAGIC: The Shockers opened Riverfront Stadium -- the new downtown Wichita ballpark and home of the Wichita Wind Surge minor league team -- in style Saturday, April 10, rolling to a 10-1 win over Houston. Paxton Wallace hit the first homer in the new stadium's history with a towering two-run shot to right in the bottom of the first, before Hunter Gibson smashed the first grand slam in stadium lore in the fifth inning. On the mound, Jace Kaminska spun the first complete game for a WSU freshman since 2009, going the full nine and allowing one earned run with a career-high seven Ks. The announced attendance of 7,509 marked the seventh-largest crowd in WSU baseball history and was the 14th-largest crowd in NCAA Division I in 2021.

CLOSING THE DOOR: Sophomore right-hander Aaron Haase leads The American and is seventh in the latest NCAA national statistics with seven saves in 10 appearances in 2021. Haase has a 1.98 ERA and has allowed three earned runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts and one walk in 13 2/3 innings.

STEADY STUEMPFIG: Redshirt sophomore RHP Ryan Stuempfig leads the Shockers and The American and ranks 16th in NCAA Division I in wins on the mound this season with five. Stuempfig is 5-0 in 12 relief appearances and 22 innings pitched with a 0.82 ERA.

SCORING EARLY: The Shockers have outscored their opponents 25-11 in the first inning this season. When WSU gets on the board in the first, they are 11-2. Overall, when scoring first in games, Wichita State is 14-4.

NOTABLE STREAKS: On-Base: Jack Sigrist has reached base in 22 straight contests, while Garrett Kocis has successfully gotten on-base in his last 19 games and Paxton Wallace has reached in his last 17 contests ... Hitting: Wallace is on a team-high seven-game hitting streak, Hunter Gibson has at least one hit in his last six contests, and Ross Cadena has at least one hit in his last four games.

GOING FOR THREE: Through 28 games, Wichita State leads The American and ranks 17th in the country in triples with 10. Jack Sigrist, Couper Cornblum and Ross Cadena are tied for third in The American with two triples each, while Garrett Kocis, Chuck Ingram, Seth Stroh and Paxton Wallace each have one triple.

TURNING TWO: The Shockers are second in The American and 32nd in the country in double plays turned with 23 in 28 games.
 
DON'T RUN ON ROSS: Junior catcher Ross Cadena has already thrown out six runners attempting to steal through 28 games in 2021. Last season, Cadena threw out five runners in 15 games. He has been named to the 2021 Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Award watch list.

GETTING IT DONE ON AND OFF THE FIELD: Preston Snavely has been named a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. Snavely is 3-1 and has a 3.35 ERA in seven appearances and starts on the mound this season. He has only allowed 14 earned runs on 32 hits with 30 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings of work going into the series at Tulane. Snavely graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in May 2020, with a 3.88 GPA. He currently has a perfect 4.0 GPA in his pursuit of a graduate degree in sport management. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in May, and those 10 names will be placed on the final ballot. The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2021 College World Series® in June.

THE FRIENDLY CONFINES: The Shockers have an all-time record of 848-268-2 at Eck Stadium, Home of Tyler Field, dating back to 1988.
