HIGH POINT, N.C. -- High Point University women's golfers Samantha Vodry and Sarah Kahn travel to Texas this weekend to participate in the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball on April 24-28.
The U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball is one of the premier amateur golf tournaments in the United States. The field is comprised of 64 teams of two, with each golfers' handicap not exceeding 14.4. Two rounds of stroke play (April 24-25) start the tournament off, with the top 32 teams making it to the match-play portion of the tournament. The round of 32 takes place on Monday (April 26), followed by the round of 16 and quarterfinals on Tuesday (April 27), and the semifinals and championship match on Wednesday (April 28).
This is the first U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Championship since the 2019 tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. after last year's event in Naples, Fla. was canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Vodry and Kahn had actually qualified for 2020's tournament in Naples and then requalified for the 2021 edition. The field of 64 qualified over the fall and winter to be chosen out of a record 425 entries this year to compete at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton, Texas.
The winners of the championship will receive a gold medal and the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball Trophy for the year after the event. They also receive a 10-year qualifying exemption for the U.S. Women's Amateur Four-Ball and an exemption into the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur in August at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, N.Y.
Vodry and Kahn are each coming off of two of the best individual seasons in program history that saw them both earn All-Conference honors. Vodry averaged a score of 72.59 per round this season while Kahn averaged 73.49 for the top two marks in program history and both had all of their rounds count in every event. Both won events this year, with Vodry's two wins giving her four in her career for the most in program history. Kahn's win had a total score of 203 for the only sub-210 event in program history while her final round of 64 is also a program record and one stroke better than Vodry's 65 from the same round.
Vodry and Kahn will begin their tournament on Saturday at 11:54 a.m. CT for the first round of stroke play, followed by an 8:30 a.m. CT tee time on Sunday in round two.
