(May 20, 2021) The baseball team is continuing to shake off the rust after missing last season because of COVID-19, dropping the first four games of the season. But head coach Jack Pearson remains optimistic.

“The guys who have been really quiet with the bats are starting to put together better at-bats,” he said.

“There were some signs that were missed but we are starting to get a little more aggressive on the basepaths, our leads are getting a little bit bigger, and we are starting to believe a little bit.”

The Whalers played their most competitive game of the week Monday in a 5-3 loss to Monomoy. The other three losses weren’t as close: 17-2 to Martha’s Vineyard Saturday, 13-2 to Sturgis East Friday and 21-0 to St. John Paul II last Wednesday.
