MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Head volleyball coach Chuck Crawford has announced the signing of four student-athletes to the Middle Tennessee volleyball program.
The group is comprised of setter Olivia Phillips, defensive specialist Olivia Lux, middle blocker Michaela Wright, and outside hitter Melisa Nur Temiz.
Olivia Phillips | Setter | Noblesville, Indiana | Hamilton Southeastern HS
Olivia Phillips, a 5-11 setter from Noblesville, Indiana signs to Middle Tennessee from Hamilton Southeastern High School. In four years of varsity competition, she compiled 2646 assists, 435 digs, 249 kills, and 66 aces. Her 2646 career assists are currently a school record at Hamilton Southeastern High School. She helped lead her team to a state championship appearance her junior year. She has collected a First Team All-County and First Team All-Conference, and an Academic All-State selection during her high school career.
Olivia is the daughter of Matt and Laura Phillips. She has an older sister Meredith who is a junior on the volleyball team at Western Michigan. Dad, Matt, played football at Ole Miss. She intends to major in Business Administration at Middle Tennessee.
Crawford on Phillips: "Olivia is a natural lefty and knows how to attack while at the net. She is an extremely cerebral player who understands the game and how to run an offense."
Olivia Lux | Defensive Specialist | Fishers, Indiana | Fishers HS
Olivia Lux is a 5-5 defensive specialist from Fishers High School in Fishers, Indiana. She was named to the All-Academic State Team her junior and senior year. Her senior year, she was a 2020 Mental Attitude Award Recipient. Lux also helped lead her team to a Sectional Championship her sophomore year. In 26 career matches, she did not commit a service error. She played for Munciana Volleyball Club in club season, aiding them to a final five finish at AAU Nationals in 2018.
Olivia is the daughter of Bary and Margie Lux. She has a twin brother, Charlie, and a younger sister, Natalie. Her second cousin, Jacqueline, played volleyball at Middle Tennessee from 2014-16. She intends to major in Biology at Middle Tennessee.
Crawford on Lux: "Olivia is an extremely dynamic defender. She is a former gymnast and has the ability to hold defensive moves due to her excellent core strength. Her personality and volleyball background will make an immediate impact on our team."
Michaela Wright | Middle Blocker | Columbia, Missouri | UT-Arlington
Michaela Wright is a 6-5 middle blocker from Columbia, Missouri. She is a graduate transfer from UT-Arlington. Wright has played in 156 sets in three seasons for the Mavericks while recording 167 kills, 70 digs, and 114 total blocks. During the 2020 season, she led the team with 62 total blocks. Wright was named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List all three seasons. She also played on the Mavericks women's basketball team appearing in 34 games in three seasons. During her high school career, she received All-District, All-Region, All-State honors in volleyball. She was also a two-time Missouri Homeschool Basketball State Champion and Team MVP.
Michaela is the daughter of Jimmy and Lisa Wright. She has four sisters, Amber, Laura Elizabeth, Samantha, and Jannika. Mom, Lisa, played volleyball at Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri. She intends to get her Master's in Business Administration at Middle Tennessee.
Crawford on Wright: "Michaela comes to us with a great deal of wisdom and experience as a collegiate athlete. I expect her to make an immediate impact on the entire team. She blocks very well and has the ability to stress the opponent's defense."
Melisa Nur Temiz | Outside Hitter | Istanbul, Turkey | West Virginia
Melisa Nur Temiz is a 6-2 outside hitter from Istanbul, Turkey. She comes to Middle Tennessee by way of West Virginia, where she appeared in one match during her freshman year for the Mountaineers. During her high school career, she was a four-year varsity letter-winner at Acibadem Doga High School. She helped lead her high school team to the Turkey and Istanbul Championship her sophomore, junior, and senior year. She also helped lead her team to a third-place finish at the ISF world championships her junior year. During club season, she played for Emre Nur, aiding them to a 2018-19 Istanbul and Turkey Championship. Nur Temiz also competed for the Turkish National Team, helping them to a 2016-17 Balkan Championship and a third-place finish at the 2017-18 European Championships.
Melisa is the daughter of Bedri Sinan and Irem Temiz. She has one brother, Ahmet Arda and one sister Asya Alina. She plans to major in Business Administration at Middle Tennessee.
Crawford on Nur Temiz: "Melisa comes to us with a great deal of international experience. She has an extremely fast arm and knows how to score. Melisa is quick to laugh off the court. However, she has a very serious approach to training and will expect the same from everyone else. She will be a great addition to our overall leadership."
