TROY, N.Y. - The Liberty League has revealed the post-season award recipients in women's tennis and four Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athletes are among those who have earned recognition. Rani Jones was named in both singles and doubles, while Chloe Barr, Natalie Cipriano and Krisia Flores Gonzalez garnered doubles accolades. All four are sophomores.

A First Team choice in singles, Jones (Newmarket, MD / Oakdale) played No. 1 throughout the spring, in which they RPI was 2-3 as a team. (The season was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.) Individually, she was 3-2 with wins of 4-1, 4-1 at St. Lawrence, where abbreviated scoring was used for singles; 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3) at Union; and 6-3, 0-6, 12-10 vs. Union. Her first victory over her foe from the Dutchwomen not only decided a 5-4 win, but also clinched a post-season berth for Rensselaer, which would have been eliminated from contention had she lost. The two losses that Jones suffered came to Skidmore College's Risa Fukushige, the conference's Player of the Year who is nationally-ranked.

In doubles, Jones, a captain, and Barr (Chagrin Falls, OH / Home School) earned Second Team after going 3-2 at No. 1. Their wins came at St. Lawrence (8-7 (7-3)), at Union (8-0) and against the Dutchwomen in a non-league match (8-4). Their two losses were by 8-5 scores to the top team from the Thoroughbreds, including in the Liberty League Semifinals.

Also Second Team honorees, Cipriano (Holmdel, NJ / Holmdel) and Flores Gonzalez (Sugar Land, TX / William P. Clements) went 3-2 with all three wins coming in tiebreaks. They earned the lone team point against Skidmore in the season opener with an 8-7 (11-9) win before moving to 2-0 with an 8-7 (13-11) triumph at St. Lawrence. Their third win came in a non-league match with Union when they won 8-7 (8-6) in Troy.

The Engineers, who are coached by Justin Roe, were one of four teams to make the conference playoffs this season. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the format was altered to include just a semifinals and final instead of the usual 9-team tournament.
