JACKSONVILLE, Fl. - Four members of the Youngstown State men's and women's track and field programs begin competition from the 2021 NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday at the Jax Track within Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
Qualifiers out of the regional meet will compete in the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 9-12 at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon in Eugene.
On Wednesday, May 26, Wyatt Lefker will compete in the pole vault, Collin Harden will run in the preliminary round of the 400m hurdles and Sean Peterson runs in the preliminary round of the 800m. The following day, Thursday, May 27, Erin Bogard will represent Youngstown State in the women's pole vault completion.
Lefker will be the first Penguin to compete as the pole vault gets underway at 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon. The Williamsburg, Ohio native currently holds the top mark in the Horizon League with a vault of 5.21m and is coming off back-to-back outdoor titles in the event.
Harden takes the track at 7:25 p.m. to compete in the 400m hurdles. He enters the preliminary rounds following winning a pair of Horizon League outdoor titles in the 110m hurdles and 400m hurdles. On the season, Harden held conference-best times of 13.96 (110mH) and 51.37 (400mH). If he qualifies, the quarterfinal heats for the event are scheduled for Friday at 7:55 p.m.
Harden placed 22nd overall in the 400m hurdles during his impressive run at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
Peterson will be the final Penguin to see the track during Wednesday's action from Jacksonville, running in the first round of the 800m dash slated for 7:50 p.m. Quarterfinals for the event are scheduled for Friday at 7:35 p.m.
Bogard gets YSU's Thursday competition underway with the women's pole vault completion set for 3 p.m. The Powell, Ohio, native cleared 4.01m vault to not only uplift her previous school record of 3.95m set at the Miami (Fla.) Hurricane Alumni Invitational, but also set a new facility and Horizon League record.
