KANSAS CITY, M.O - The United Soccer Coaches All-Region teams were announced Tuesday afternoon, and the South Region was headlined by Pittsburgh and the High Point Panthers with three first-team selections each. The most of any team in the South Region. The three First Team selections doubled the number of the program's previous First Team selections since turning Division I in 1999. Johnny Fenwick in 2018, Fejiro Okiomah in 2012, and Karl Okiomah in 2010 were the other selections. Alex Abril was selected to the USC Third Team All-Region.
The Purple & White have had 27 All-Region picks since 2008.
Junior midfielder Sebastian Chalbaud, Sophomore forward M.D. Myers and Center back Finn McRobb were selected to the First Team, while Junior attacking player Alex Abril was named to the Third Team by the USC.
The Big South Attacking Player of the Year, M.D. Myers scored 14 goals and assisted 4 times, leading the country in goals for a majority of the season, and currently sits in 2nd behind Oregon State's Gloria Amanda. The former Philadelphia Union man leads Division I in game-winning goals with 5.
Chalbaud scored 9 times this season, setting up another 4 goals for teammates to help HPU achieve a 12-2-0 record, a perfect 8-0-0 in the Big South. The Venezuelan's 9 goals are registers just inside the Top 10 in the nation at eight in Goals Scored.
McRobb leads a historically good backline for High Point, playing all but 49 minutes this spring conceded just 6 goals during the regular season before allowing once in the Big South Championship and twice against defending National Champions Georgetown. The former Celtic FC center-back helped secure a program-record 0.64 goals-against average, good enough for 15th in the country.
Maryland United's Alex Abril was selected to the third team after going for 6 goals and 6 assists in all 14 of his starts. The 6 assists were a team-best. Abril averaged a point per game for the season and 1.22 points per game per 90 minutes.
High Point joins Indiana and Stanford as the only teams in the country with a Top 20 Scoring Offense & Top 20 Goals Against Average. The Big South Regular Season & Tournament Champions return the entire team for the Fall of 2021 season and have won three of the last four regular-season crowns in the Big South Conference.
