The Women of Oregon picked up their first NCAA qualifier with Paredes' effort in the javelin. In the second round, she got the posted a season-best mark of 54.17m/177-8 to solidify her spot near the top of the standings; Paredes finished second overall. This will be her third appearance at the NCAA Championships, and first with Oregon after two during her career at Florida State (2018, '19).
"I feel like I'm getting used to my approach and starting to believe in myself and believe in my coaches," Paredes said. "We're just waiting for the right moment to peak and hopefully that's in two weeks. My mom is coming and I want to cry already. She came three years ago for my first college meet (at Florida State) and she's going to be here for my last college meet so I couldn't be more excited for that."
Paredes came into to the day with a season's best of 53.40m/175-2 from her runner-up performance at the Pac-12 Championships. She currently ranks No. 3 in school history in the javelin.
As Paredes was securing her spot, the final flights of the long were getting started for Hickey and Foster. The duo finished third and 10th, respectively, to advance to the national meet at Hayward Field. On her second attempt, Hickey got out to an all-conditions best of 6.81m/22-4.25 (+2.3) which was good for third overall. Foster needed just two jumps to finish among the top 12, passing on her final attempt because she couldn't be overtaken.
Hickey, the Pac-12 champion, will be making her debut at the NCAA Championships and Foster has now advanced to the national meet for the fourth time in her career. She finished seventh in 2019.
"A thing that a lot of people don't realize is that Hickey is a freshman," head coach Robert Johnson said. "She has a lot of years to go and I think there are a lot of things she can work on and still improve. Then, you have Rhesa who is our wily vet and she's a competitor like none other. I look forward to getting them both back to Eugene to see what happens."
In the final event of the night, Cardama Baez ran to a second-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships in the 10,000 meters. She was the national runner-up in 2019 and now has an opportunity to run for an NCAA title on her home track at Hayward Field. Cardama Baez posted a time of 33:30.36 to secure her spot and finish second overall in Thursday's race.

In the first event on the track, Emily Sloan clocked an all-conditions best of 12.98 (+2.7) to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal round. The race marked the first sub-13 performance of her career. Sloan owns a wind-legal best of 13.04 from this year's Desert Heat Classic (May 1). The next round of the 100-meter hurdles is set for Saturday at 4:45 p.m. (PT).
The UO women advanced all four entries in the 100 meters, headlined by a barely wind-aided time of 10.91 (+2.1) from Kemba Nelson. The UO standout finished as the top-overall qualifier for Saturday's quarterfinal and tied for the No. 9 wind-aided performance in collegiate history.
Nelson will be joined in the next round by teammates Jadyn Mays, Danyel White and Jasmin Reed. Mays posted a new personal best of 11.28 in the first of six heats Thursday. White and Reed recorded times of 11.37 and 11.39, respectively, to move on to the quarterfinals. That round is scheduled for Saturday at 5:05 p.m. (PT).
Mia Moerck extended her season with a qualifying effort in the first round of the 800 meters. She clocked a time of 2:06.87 to claim an on-time spot in quarterfinal. Moerck races for an NCAA spot Saturday at 5:35 p.m. (PT).
In her second race of the day, Alexandra Webster crossed in 59.39 to improve her personal best in the 400-meter hurdles. With the effort, she moves up to No. 9 on the program's all-time performance list. The UO freshman had a previous best of 59.57 from the Pac-12 Championships. The next round at the preliminary site is set for Saturday at 5:55 p.m. (PT).
Back from the 100 meters, both White and Reed picked up their second qualifiers of the day in the 200 meters. White closed hard to post a time of 23.23 while Reed ran a season best of 23.27 to advance to the next round. Saturday's quarterfinal will be run at 6:10 p.m. (PT).
Day three of the NCAA West Preliminary features 24 qualifying chances for the Men of Oregon across 11 events. The Ducks have already secured national bids from Dalton Rasmussen (javelin) and Max Vollmer (decathlon).
