GRAND RAPIDS -- The Meijer LPGA Classic is well underway and it could crown a new winner.
Four women have risen to the top of the leaderboard and all four are on the hunt for their first tournament win of the season.
Nasa Hataoka, Charley Hull, Leona Maguire and Lauren Stephenson finished the first round tied at first, all of them shooting 7 under par.
Stephenson may not have started off the best after bogeying the first hole. She settled in though for the remainder of the first nine holes, then really found her groove in the second nine. She hit birdies on six of the back nine as she looks to get her first LPGA career win.
Maguire was solid from start to finish. She hit a bogey-free round to earn her spot atop the leaderboard.
Hull wason par before she hit a bogey on the fifth hole. She got things back under control with a couple of eagles on two of the last five holes. On top of that, she shot five-under-par the rest of the way before that eagle on the final hole lifted her to a spot with the leaders.
Hataoka, like Maguire, ended the first round bogey-free. She hit four birdies in five holes on the front nine then hit another three of the last five holes in the round.
Ariya Jutanugarn and Min Lee are currently tied for fifth finishing the first round six-under par. Lee led for much of the tournament hitting eight under par on the 13th hole. But a pair of bogeys on two of the final five holes pushed her back.
Lexi Thompson, who won the tournament in 2015, finished the round tied for 11th place at four-under. Two-time tournament winner and reigning champ, Brooke Henderson, finished three over, tied at 127th.
Henderson, who is ranked eighth in the world, had a solid start on the day, but she hit a bogey on the seventh hole. She couldn’t quite get back on track, hitting bogeys four of the back nine holes.
Golfers will be back in action on Friday morning with coverage beginning around 10:30 a.m. (GOLF Channel).
