With the October 2 opening of Northgate Link less than three months away, Sound Transit has launched NorthgateLink.com, an interactive website to welcome riders to the three new stations coming to their neighborhoods: Northgate, U District and Roosevelt. In addition, the website provides rider tips, including information about ORCA cards, and provides an opportunity to learn more about the museum-like installations that riders will experience at the stations when the alignment opens.
"The momentum and enthusiasm is building as we get closer to the opening of Northgate Link," said Sound Transit CEO Peter Rogoff. "We want people to feel the excitement as the opening date draws nearer and to get a taste of what light rail will mean for the neighborhoods that we will soon reach."
The new extension will offer riders reliable, traffic-free trips of only 14 minutes between Northgate and downtown Seattle. In addition to the elevated station at Northgate trains will stop at new underground stations serving Seattle’s U District and Roosevelt neighborhoods. Of the 4.3-mile extension, all but 0.8 miles of elevated track at Northgate are located underground.
Next month, the public will see installations outside each of the three stations welcoming riders in advance of the opening. For the first month of service, riders will also be greeted with "welcome" installations inside the stations.
Sound Transit is simultaneously working to extend light rail north, south, east and west. Northgate Link will be followed in 2023 by the opening of service to Mercer Island, Bellevue and Redmond’s Overlake community. Additional extensions to Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, Lynnwood, Kent/Des Moines, Federal Way and downtown Redmond are planned in 2024.
