CHATTANOOGA---Four Chattanooga Mocs earned Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholar status in 2020-21. In 14 seasons, Coach Colette Murray's ladies have 32 mentions on the WGCA honor list that requires a 3.5 cumulative GPA or better.
The quartet features third-year sophomore Esme Hamilton along with true freshmen Beatriz Barrios, Jefimija Dordevic and Daphne van Son. Dordevic topped the list with a perfect 4.0 for her first two semesters of collegiate life.
Hamilton is a 3-time honoree for the award. The Environmental Studies major also earned All-Southern Conference as she led the Mocs with a 74.75 stroke average. She rose to fourth all-time in the program with a 75.39 mark in career scoring average.
Barrios and van Son had impressive debuts. Barrios's 75.53 average was the best by a freshman since Holly Morgan's 75.29 in 2016-17. She is just the third freshman in school history to post three top 5s in her debut campaign joining Hall of Famer Emma de Groot '11 (6) and 2-time Olympian Christine Wolf '11 (3).
van Son wasn't far behind her classmate. She was one of four Mocs to post three or more top 10s alongside Hamilton (5), Barrios (3) and Dorota Zalewska (3). She posted a 76.61 average counting in 35 of 36 team rounds matching Hamilton for leadership in counters.
The four WGCA All-American Scholars tied for the most in the Southern Conference with UNC Greensboro, Western Carolina and Wofford with Mercer adding three and Furman two for a total of 21.
