Four-star wide receiver Shaleak Knotts commits to Maryland football - Testudo Times

suaralifestyle.blogspot.com

Maryland football picked up a commitment from four-star Class of 2022 wide receiver Shaleak Knotts, he announced Sunday.

Knotts, who ranks as the No. 120 player and No. 16 wide receiver in his class, chose the Terps over North Carolina and Tennessee. He also held offers from Georgia, Penn State and Texas among others.

Standing at 6-foot-1, 184 pounds, Knotts brings a skill-set very reminiscent of former Maryland football wide receiver Stefon Diggs. With a blend of size and speed, Knotts does well to find open areas in space and can make plays against man opponents when necessary.

In nine games as a junior, Knotts tallied 34 catches for 607 yards and seven touchdowns. He also put in effort on the defensive side of the ball with three interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Knotts really broke out during his full 12-game sophomore season in 2019, finishing with 59 catches for 1,006 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Maryland football head coach Mike Locksley and his staff have been rather selective at wide receiver in the last two cycles, likely due to the depth of the positional group in College Park. Virginia native Tai Felton was the only receiver in the Class of 2021, while Knotts joins top-five New Jersey prospect Amari Clark in the Class of 2022.

Knotts’ commitment could provide a jolt in what has been a stagnant summer for Maryland, as his pledge marks the first for the Terps since July 17 when Lavian Scruggs announced his commitment and just the second since mid-June.

Maryland now has 13 commitments in the Class of 2022, ranking No. 41 in the nation and ninth in the Big Ten.
