‘Sold out to marijuana’
The reason there’s a stampede of marijuana businesses running to Lapeer and getting their plans fast-tracked through city government is that city leaders foolishly set no limit on the number of marijuana grow and manufacture places that can operate. It’s really ridiculous, and I’m so disappointed by the city officials who have sold out to marijuana. They know who they are, and so do we.

Dryden stands together
Even after his death, the greater Dryden community continues to support the Mindelli family. The memorial service on Aug. 14 (at Dryden Wesleyan Church) will likely be well attended. I’m so proud of my hometown.

Praise for Dryden Wesleyan
Dryden Wesleyan Church stepped up where other churches did not during the search and prayers for Joseph Mindelli and his family. It has been noted those who did nothing or said nothing. Shame on you.

State Fair a local ‘treasure’
The Eastern Michigan State Fair is a treasure to Lapeer County. Good clean family fun. Congratulations and thank you Ian Kempf for managing a wonderful summer tradition for 25 years. Job well done, sir.

More vendors needed
My only complaint about the fair (Eastern Michigan State Fair) is they need to bring in more food vendors. Lines were too long and caused a lot of frustration as people missed some events because they were still in line.

Need more parking
They need to come up with a better parking plan (at Eastern Michigan State Fair). We had to walk about six blocks because the parking lot was full. That really made it difficult with three young children to enjoy the fair.

Crack down on speeders
We really appreciate the police (Lapeer) writing speeding tickets in our neighborhood. The young kids treat the road like a dragway, and it’s dangerous at times to pull out of the driveway. Thank you.

Spend federal money on new swimming pool
They (Lapeer County government) should spend the federal stimulus money on a swimming pool for adults, because the water parks are really only good for kids so there’s no way for adults to cool off or exercise. Build a regular swimming pool.

Enjoy barn photos
Our new favorite thing in the paper are the beautiful barn photos (published in Ag Today section of Wednesday paper). Had no idea there were such a variety of construction styles.

Tell us what you think
The U.S. this week reached President Joe Biden’s goal of having 70% of adults with at least one vaccine dose — a month later than hoped — and as of Monday, 63.7% of Michigan residents 16 and older had received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. In Lapeer County, 44% of eligible residents are fully vaccinated. In parts of the country, the Delta variant is surging among those unvaccinated. Do you intend to get vaccinated, and if not what is your objection?
