Fix the d*** roads!
Congratulations, Marlana Swindell to get onto the commission (appointed to Lapeer City Commission on Sept. 20). I hope she keeps them on their toes and makes it a priority to fix the many lousy streets like Turrill Avenue and Court Street in my neighborhood. They’re deplorable. Bumpy, lots of loose gravel on Court Street.
Marlana, fix the d*** roads!

‘Hope they don’t increase the number of marijuana stores’
Now there are four pro-marijuana commissioners in Lapeer and only Joshua Atwood opposed to the continued influx of marijuana businesses that are popping up everywhere like weeds. I hope they don’t increase the number of marijuana stores. Six is too many already.

Welcome to city politics
Congrats, Marlana. You’re going to make a great (Lapeer) commissioner. Good to have a woman back on the commission again.

Talk to your family about how they’re feeling
Our daughter took her own life in 2014. It seems like yesterday. Suicide, anxiety and depression are awkward and hard things to talk about, but it’s absolutely critical to ask questions of your loved ones. If you don’t ask, how can you know how they’re feeling inside. Have the conversation today. Tomorrows don’t always come.

Ludwig was ‘a kind soul’
Beautiful story Nicholas (Pugliese) about the loss of our friend Fred Ludwig. He committed suicide. He was such a kind soul. We miss him so much.

Wonderful and disturbing at the same time
Hundreds of people participated in the Suicide Awareness Walk (at Cramton Park in Lapeer on Sept. 18). It was wonderful that so many people came together to remember their loved ones, but also disturbing that the number of suicide survivors increases each year.

Student bullying contributed to suicide
My brother Jimmy killed himself in 2018 because he couldn’t take the physical and cellphone bullying anymore that he got from the idiot students where he went to school. I remembered him in Lapeer with my sister (at awareness walk at Cramton Park). People need to be kind.

Get back to Sept. 12
I appreciate the paper remembering the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001. We must never forget that day, and we must all try to get back to how we were Sept. 12. I wonder if we ever again since this country is so broken right now.

No need for hostility
Kindness is the answer. Put away the Trump yard signs and flags and bring down the hostility level and be kind to one another. There’s no need to be so aggressive and hostile to people just because they voted different than you. That goes both ways, whether you’re a Republican or Democrat.

Tell us what you think
Wednesday, Sept. 22 marked the start of autumn with highs in the upper 50s. The long-range forecast by the National Weather Service for Lapeer County calls for mild temperatures through October. How do you like to enjoy the autumn season in Lapeer County?
