BOISE, Idaho - Boise State volleyball came up short in a four-set match to Colorado State Saturday afternoon in Boise. Playing in their final contest in Bronco Gym, Boise State's four seniors led the team against the Mountain West Conference co-champion Rams. Jessica Donahue, Danielle Boss, Shae Duffy and Alli O'Harra combined for 22 kills, 35 assists, seven service aces and 22 blocks (11 team blocks). But in the end, it was not enough as the Broncos fell 25-15, 26-24, 18-25, 25-18 to Colorado State.

The loss in the regular season finale moved the Blue and Orange to 21-10 overall and 10-8 in MW play, while CSU improved to 18-9 and 14-4. Up next for both squads is a trip to next week's first MW Conference Championship tournament since 2011 in Las Vegas after finishing as two of the top six teams during the regular season.

"I'm really proud of the way our seniors fought today in their final home match," said Boise State head coach Shawn Garus. "I thought they played with a lot of energy and emotion even when things were not going our way. Jessica and Alli were great at middle blocker and did a good job leading us at the net. Now we need to move on and turn our focus to next week and the conference tournament."

Donahue scored a team-high with 13 points on nine kills and a team and season-high eight block assists. She also hit a team-best .500 percent.

Lauren Ohlinger and O'Harra were next with 12.5 points each. Ohlinger was the only Bronco in double-digit kills finishing with 12 to go with six digs and one block assist. O'Harra hit .444 percent for nine kills, in addition to one service ace and five block assists.

Paige Bartsch followed by hitting .467 percent for eight kills to go with one service ace and six block assists to end the day with 12 points.

Boss finished with 34 assists from the setter position pushing her past the 1,000 assists mark for the second time in her career with 1,030. The senior also had two kills, two service aces, seven digs and six blocks, one was a solo.

The final senior, Shae Duffy had two kills, a career-high-tying four service aces and one block assist. Meanwhile, Allison Casillas recorded a team-high 13 digs as the libero.

Colorado State had a lot riding on this match and came out strong from the start. The Rams needed to win the match in order to gain a share of the regular-season conference title. They dominated the first set over the Broncos hitting .550 percent to Boise State's .235 percent to take it by 10 points.

The Broncos settled down heading into the second set and battled to the end. A Lauren Ohlinger kill late in the period gave Boise State a 23-21 lead over the Rams. Unfortunately, Boise State was unable to close it out as CSU rallied with a 5-1 run to take it 26-24 to move out to a 2-0 match lead.

The third set saw six ties and five lead changes as Boise State rallied for the win to close within one, 2-1, in the match. Trailing 7-5, the Broncos rolled off a 10-0 run and never looked back.

The fourth period was dominated by the Rams who raced out to a 7-1 lead, then held off every Bronco attempt to rally before taking it by seven points.

Notables

  • Lauren Ohlinger's double-digit kill total gives her 25 on the season and 52 in her career.
  • Jessica Donahue's eight blocks gives her 438 in her career, one short of tying for third all-time in Boise State history ... she has already set the rally scoring era (2001-present) record.
  • Paige Bartsch's six blocks tied her career high.
  • The Broncos 14 team blocks gives them 326.5 on the season, the second most during the rally scoring era behind 2019's 328.
