ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – While the Western Oregon University men's basketball team had four reach double-figures in scoring, that wouldn't be enough against Cal State East Bay with the Pioneers pulling away in the second half for the 85-72 victory Friday that was played at a neutral site location in The Wolves' Den on the Sonoma State campus.

Cameron Cranston again led the Wolves with 15 points, along with four assists, seven rebounds and three steals. Collin Warmouth tallied 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Elihu Cobb and Antonio Salinas each scored 10 points. John Morrill-Keller just missed reaching double-figures with nine points.

WOU (0-3) shot well from the field connecting on 29-68 (42.6) and 10-32 (31.3) from three. They only attempted five free throws making four (80).

Cal State East Bay (2-2) used a combination of a plus-18 points in the paint (50-32), plus-10 on second-chance points (16-6) and plus-nine on points off turnovers (16-7) to take claim the victory. The Pioneers also received a big game from Zafir Williams who went for 29 points and eight rebounds. Kaito Williams added 11 points and six rebounds, while Tone Patton and Josh Dhatt added 10 points apiece. Cal State East Bay shot 48 percent (36-75) from the field, 8-27 (29.6) from three and 5-7 (71.4) at the foul line.

Yosani Clay opened the scoring 43 seconds in with a jumper. A Morrill-Keeler three a few minutes later had WOU out to a 5-3 lead. Neither team was able to create much separation throughout the first half with WOU coming back to within one with just under five minutes to play before the half on a jumper by Morrill-Keller off the fastbreak and in the paint.

A three from Warmouth had the lead again back to a point for CSU-EB when the Pioneers closed the half on a 6-0 run to take a 40-33 lead into the locker rooms.

Trailing by 10 early in the second half, WOU got things going with a three-pointer by Cranston and after a layup by Morrill-Keeler, RJ Veliz sunk a triple and Cranston added a jumper to pull the Wolves back to within four at 45-41.

After the Pioneers pushed the lead back out to 10, Cobb connected on two straight baskets to cut the lead back to six with 14:43 to play. Each time it seemed like WOU was gaining traction, the Pioneers had an answer. A 10-2 run by CSU-EB had the lead up to 14 near the midway point of the half.

WOU made one more push to try and get back into it with Warmouth hitting two from the line and then a transition three by Cranston trimmed the deficit back to nine before the Pioneers went on a 12-2 run to put the game out of reach.

The Wolves will remain in Rohnert Park to face the host school Sonoma State tomorrow (Saturday) with game time set for 4 p.m. The Seawolves nearly rallied for the win on Friday against Alaska Fairbanks before the Nanooks held on for the 85-79 victory.
