Softball Program Adds Four National Letter of Intent Signees - Youngstown State Athletics

The Youngstown State softball program has signed four student-athletes to National Letters of Intent, Head Coach Brian Campbell announced. All four will join the program in the fall of 2022.

Kennedy Dean, Madison Griffin, Ellie Hardman and Grace Pilaczynski all signed NLIs to join the program. Dean is a catcher/utility player from Winfield, W. Va., Griffin is a pitcher from Ligonier, Pa., Hardman is a utility player from Akron, Ohio, and Pilaczynski is a shortstop from Brooklyn, Mich.

"We are really excited to sign four outstanding softball players from a variety of positions," Campbell said. "All four come from great high school programs and summer teams and they've each played a vital role in the success of their teams. They each have the qualities we are looking for in student-athletes and we will be excited to have them join our program in the fall of 2022."

Dean was named player of the year as a junior and first-team all-state, all-valley and all-conference her freshman and junior seasons at Winfield High School. During her junior year, she led the team with 25 RBIs, nine homeruns and 29 runs scored with a batting average of .398. As a freshman, Dean batted .368 with 10 doubles, 33 RBIs and eight homeruns.

Griffin, a senior at Ligonier Valley High School, was named first-team all-state and Class 2A Player of the Year in 2021. In her high school career, Griffin posted a .391 earned-run average, 12 no-hitters, six perfect games and 19 shutouts in 170 innings pitched. A native of Ligonier, Pa., Griffin owns the Ligonier Valley High School strikeout record with 316 strikes.

Hardman is a three-year letter winner and starter at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron. As a freshman, she earned the NCL honorable mention.

Pilaczynski, who is a senior at Jackson (Mich.) Northwest, was named first-team all-conference and all-region. She was also on the all-district team. Pilaczynski recorded a .490 batting average, .929 slugging percentage and on-base percentage of .531 in her high school career.
