BOSTON, Mass and ITHACA, N.Y. – The Binghamton track & field teams shook off the rust at a pair of season-opening meets in impressive fashion.

Emily Mackay and Dan Schaffer each set school records at the Boston/Sharon Colyear-Danville Meet – both in the 5K. At the Cornell/Greg Page Relays, meanwhile, first-place finishes were turned in by Stephanie Cassens, Nia Joyner, Madison Krochina and Marcrene Jeannot.

There was no team scoring at either meet.

Racing against many of the top collegiate runners in the nation - as well as unattached pros - Mackay and Schaffer continued their assault on the Binghamton record books. Mackay clocked a time of 15:44, smashing the previous women's indoor school record of 16:56, which was set by Allison Davis in 2018. Schaffer, meanwhile, recorded a time of 13:51. In the process, he shattered the previous indoor mark of 14:23, which was set by Adam Quinn back in 2011.

Mackay was 15th overall – but was 13th among collegiate runners. Schaffer was 29th overall – but was 20th among collegiate entrees.

At Cornell, meanwhile, Cassens won the women's 500 in a time of 1:16.90. Krochina was tops in the women's weight throw (52-4 ¾) while Joyner captured the women's triple jump (39-5). Jeannot was first in the men's triple jump (48-5 ¼).

Also at Cornell, Jenna Chan set the women's freshman record in the 60 hurdles. Her fourth-place time of 8.74 eclipsed the 2013 mark of 8.85, which was set by Kierra Arthur.

Binghamton returns to action at the Lehigh/Angry Bird Meet on Jan. 15.
