BIG FOUR BASKETBALL: Cyclones outscore Mountaineers in Big 12 opener - Marshalltown Times Republican

AMES — Ashley Joens poured in 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as No. 14 Iowa State rolled to an 88-72 victory over West Virginia on Sunday in a Big 12 Conference opener.

Emily Ryan finished with 10 points and a personal-best 16 assists for her second straight double-double for Iowa State (12-1). Beatriz Jordão and Lexi Donarski scored 14 apiece. Morgan Kane added 10 points off the bench.

Kirsten Deans scored 17 points to top the Mountaineers (7-4).

Clark helps Hawkeyes clobber Evansville

IOWA CITY — Sophomore Caitlin Clark scored a career-high 44 points with eight assists, freshman Addison O’Grady recorded her first double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and No. 21 Iowa beat Evansville 93-56 on Sunday.

Clark also became the fastest Big Ten women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000-point milestone, doing so in her first 40 games. Ohio State star Kelsey Mitchell reached the mark in 41 games.

Clark finished 18 of 26 from the floor to top her previous scoring high of 39 points.

Gabbie Marshall added 13 points for Iowa (7-3), which is scheduled to play Northwestern and Nebraska this week.

Abby Feit had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Evansville (6-6). Je’Naiya Davis added 14 points.

Green, Berhow carry UNI past Evansville

CEDAR FALLS — AJ Green scored 18 points as Northern Iowa beat Evansville 83-61 on Sunday.

Trae Berhow added 16 points for the Panthers, while Noah Carter chipped in 15. Berhow also had six rebounds.

Antwan Kimmons had 10 points for Northern Iowa (5-7, 1-1 Missouri Valley Conference).

Blaise Beauchamp had 14 points for the Purple Aces (4-9, 0-2). Evan Kuhlman added 12 points. Jawaun Newton had 11 points.

Prim leads Missouri St. over Drake

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Gaige Prim recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds to carry Missouri State to a 61-56 win over Drake on Sunday night.

Donovan Clay had 15 points and seven rebounds for Missouri State (10-5, 1-1 Missouri Valley Conference), which earned its fifth consecutive home victory.

Both teams set season lows for scoring during the game. Missouri State totaled 23 points in the first half, the lowest of the season for the hosts, while the 27 second-half points for Drake marked the fewest of the season for the visitors.

Garrett Sturtz had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (10-5, 1-1), whose four-game win streak was broken. Roman Penn added 13 points. Darnell Brodie had 10 rebounds.
