ITHACA, N.Y. – Four members of the Ithaca College men's swimming and diving team have qualified for the 2022 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships. Jack Wadsworth, Stanley Zaneski and Jack Wadsworth will each compete in individual events, while Ben Young will join the trio to compete in four separate relay competitions.
Fresh off being named the Liberty League Swimmer of the Meet, Jack Wadsworth has had an outstanding debut season for the Bombers and has qualified to compete in the 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard IM. Wadsworth didn't officially compete in the 100-yard backstroke event at the Liberty League Championships, instead he qualified on a blazing Timed Trial Final where he swam an NCAA B-cut and personal best time of 47.34, which also broke an association and men's program record. In the 200-yard backstroke, he crushed the Liberty League competition by winning the event with an NCAA B-cut time of 1:44.95. The final individual event that Wadsworth qualified for was the 400-yard individual medley. He won the 400-yard individual medley in a meet, association, school and pool record time of 3:51.34. Wadsworth is seeded second in a field of 24 swimmers within the event.
Graduate freestyler Stanley Zaneski will be looking forward to competing at the NCAA Championships for the first-time in his prolific career as he will be competing in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyles. Zaneski qualified for the 50-yard freestyle at the Liberty League Championships, touching the wall with an NCAA B-cut time of 20.61 in the prelims. He followed that up with a second-place finish with a time of 20.55, which represented a personal-best. Zaneski is also seeded 19th of 58 swimmers competing in the 100-yard freestyle after recording an explosive relay leadoff time of 44.71, which was an association, Liberty League championship and new team record.
It was an outstanding debut season for James Collishaw and for his outstanding performances at the Liberty League Championships he was named Rookie Swimmer of the Meet. He has qualified to compete in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events at the NCAA Championships. He qualified for the 50-yard freestyle by just edging out Stanley Zaneski with a winning time of 20.52 seconds. On the final day of the meet, James Collishaw once again outdueled Stanley Zaneski to win the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 44.99, which has him seeded 32nd out of 58 invited swimmers.
The quartet of Jack Wadsworth, Stanley Zaneski, James Collishaw and Ben Young also qualified to compete together in the 200-yard freestyle relay, 400-yard freestyle relay, 800-yard freestyle relay and the 200-yard medley relay.
The NCAA Championships are being held March 15-19 with Franklin College and Indiana Sports Corp serving as the hosts. All events will take place at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in Indianapolis.
