The Mercury’s Sound Off for Sunday, February 6 - The Mercury

The U.S. death rate for COVID is higher than any other wealthy country, according to a recent NY Times report and has exposed weaknesses in the Biden administration’s response to the crisis. The average number of daily deaths over the past week has climbed above 2,600.

I read with interest the article about preserving open space in Limerick. I was disheartened to read that people want open space but are reluctant to pay for it. Preserving open space can actually save money by not adding the need for additional road maintenance, police, EMT and fire coverage. No new students are added to the school district when open space is preserved. I urge all local townships to preserve open space.

Hey Collegeville Complainer. Did you ever think the sidewalks aren’t being cleared of snow is maybe the folks inside are seniors, disabled, or not at home? I would be in the same situation if it were not for my wonderful neighbors who help me clear my sidewalks and driveways every year. This is just one fine example of what community is all about. Why don’t you give it a try?

Anytime you feel stupid, remember there are people who watch “The View.”

Fox News, along with Tucker Carlson is right again. Tucker Carlson has been pointing out for more than a year now that lockdowns don’t work. According to an exhaustive Johns Hopkins study, the lockdowns in the USA did nothing to prevent deaths from covid, but they did enormous harm to our children and our economy. In fact, suicides and drug overdoses are way up. Democrats are wrong again.

I noticed that truckers are forming Freedom Convoys in Canada. For some reason, Prime Minister Trudeau is against these protests, but he was for BLM protests. Contrast the way these protests are carried out. Peacefully! No arson, no throwing stuff at police, no one hurt, no looting, and all you see are Canadian flags waving. Word is these freedom convoys may be coming here.

The only reason you would be against voter ID is if you plan to cheat. IDs are used in almost all aspects of life from renting an apartment, buying a car, boarding a plane, buying alcohol and cigarettes, etc. The fact that you want to draw the line for requiring an ID to vote is absolutely absurd. Dem’s be tripp’n!

Whoopi Goldberg has been suspended for something she said on TV. Her comments were off base, but she had a right to say them. Free speech should be defended by everyone. But alas, today’s culture wants to silence speech so that only the approved speech is heard. If you don’t like what Whoopi, Joe Rogan, Fox News, MSNBC, CNN or others are saying, Turn to another channel.

Incompetent is a word that many associate with President Biden. His energy policy is just one example. Biden canceled the Keystone XL Pipeline, blocked drilling in ANWR, and suspended the issuance of new oil and gas leases on federal lands until a court order forced him to resume. In response, energy prices jumped by 50%. Biden is now releasing oil from our strategic reserve and begging Russia and OPEC to produce more. That’s incompetent!

I see where George “Chaos” Soros is donating more money to the Democrats again. Maybe he can buy some more DAs like Philly’s Larry Krasner, LA’s George Gascon or Chicago’s Kimberly Foxx. These 3 cities can vouch how well he spent his last millions. All have record shootings and early releases so I’m sure he was well pleased with his investments in all this destruction. Where’s Obama with his victory medal?

A measure of the toxicity to be found in the Spring-Ford diversity, inclusion & equity initiative? An endorsement from the Pottstown NAACP. Contrary to lofty pronouncements, DIE institutionalizes discrimination. It is anathema to assimilation, a process obstructed by those who have found political & financial advantage in the erection of barriers between us and the exploitation of children. Among them? So-called civil rights organizations & unionized public school educators.

When Trump was in office, and his face was on TV every day making speeches, one thing was clear. He never finished a sentence, just words here and there. Now it looks like he’s going to get a sentence that he will have to complete. A jail sentence.

Oh boy, here we go! I see the looney right is now all in for banning books by Black authors or subjects related to race. What do you expect? Conservatives are the most miserable people that you could ever meet. Conservatives be racist, am I right Barney?

I’ve been keeping my eyes open but still haven’t seen a single person wearing a Build Back Better hat. Easier to catch a glimpse of Bigfoot than spot anyone sporting a BBB hat. Plenty of people proudly showing off their Let’s Go Brandon, and Hyena Harris hats though.

Sigh … More “Fauci is a liar!” nonsense. His financial disclosure is public, but getting it is not instantaneous. That’s the result of government bureaucracy. I don’t know what was redacted, but again, that redaction policy would just as likely apply to a ‘moron’ of a Senator, whose staff didn’t actually try to get Fauci’s disclosure. Do some research.

Myra Forrest and Will Wood are good deed-doers. I say that will and Myra should fuel up their vehicles (VW bugs or Priuses, I bet) and go down to our open border in Texas. All the millions of illegals down in Texas … our new American citizens … need a lift up north. Will and Myra, help your new neighbors. Give them free rides!

Pennsylvania Republicans are now trying to end mail-in voting (they voted for it). Let’s think about our country’s history on voting rights. Has voter fraud been a big issue in our history? Or has voter suppression (women and minorities fighting for the right to vote) been the story of our history? We have the technology to make voting both safe and easy.

We old people love to give good advice; it compensates for our inability to set a bad example.

Kamala Harris wants to work on root causes. The root cause of some police officer murders is illegal immigration and soft-on-crime Democrat policies. Oscar Rosales was in the country illegally and killed a Houston cop on January 23. Rosales will never be rehabilitated. He should face the death penalty. Hopefully, he will.

Michael Stern

Interesting read from WHYY/PBS: Apparently radical Republicans are afraid of losing their white privilege. “But in surveying broad community support for insurrection, Pape said research did find a significant belief: replacement theory. “They are very concerned about the idea that the rights of whites are being overtaken by the rights of minorities, or that the Democratic Party is bringing in immigrants in order to change the demographics in the country deliberately to disenfranchise conservative voters,”

Can’t we all get along on the “vaccine” issue? Biden warned all of us not to take a Trump vaccine as it is “voodoo medicine!” Kamalaaaaaaaa warned us never to take a “Trump vaccine”! let’s move on! If you trust what comes out of the government get the jabs, if not so be it!

Barney, the point is inflation and economy are not contingent on the party in charge.

The Moderate

Some things that I would like to see — first Jerry Jones’ face when the Cowboys lost, second a Republican standing up with a different viewpoint than Trump, and third, seeing con Don in the witness box testifying!

Continuing my dissembling of Mr. Jim Tribbett’s January 31 comment, He evidently claims to have a monopoly on “facts.” In Mr. Jim’s original post, he stated opinions. “…Trump is lucky that he lost,” “he would have had to face all the things,” and paraphrased: Biden did as well as Trump would have. Biden may have caused high inflation with his energy, spending, and mandate policies, who knows what inflation or supply lines would look like?

Ruth Mutter

This past weekend President Trump suggested he’d pardon the Jan 6 defendants, some of whom have been charged with seditious conspiracy; threatened prosecutors; and admitted his goal was to overturn the election. He’s still got it, folks!

L Carroll

We have all heard about the FBI raids on Roger Stone’s home, Paul Manafort’s home, and tracking parents who complain at school board meetings. Now it comes to light that Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar’s home was raided last week. What may have been Henry Cuellar’s “crime”? Likely speaking out against Biden’s Border Crisis. The FBI is the enforcer for the Democrat Party.

Realist

Truancy and disruption don’t make failed schools. Failed schools (as in poorly funded) make for truancy and disruption. Forget “wealthy liberals.” I suspect non-wealthy conservative parents would like their schools fairly funded as well.

Fox News does a great job of getting a strong anti-vaccine message out to its viewers. To maintain that message, they require all their employees to be either vaccinated or tested daily. This may sound inconsistent to naive liberals, but it’s just a belt-and-suspenders effort to make sure the crucial word gets out that vaccines don’t work.

There is a difference between time spent golfing and time spent traveling. The 16% of time traveling doesn’t include the 41 minute, 34-mile drive from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. to Trump National Golf Course Washington in Sterling, VA., a trip made 91 times in four years, but does include trips involving Airforce 1 and Marine 1. 21% of time spent golfing does include the 91 trips to Sterling VA. On January 29th of this year, Trump said that the January 6th riot was not being treated fairly as “all the other atrocities” have and when elected in 2024, he would pardon the rioters. At least he admits that the shamefulness of that day was an atrocity.

Democrats love to pursue the presidency. But once they win, they blame their failures and ineffectiveness on their Republican predecessors. Obama spent 8 years blaming his administration’s failures on Bush. Biden and his mouthpieces are blaming Trump for literally all of his failures. Do you know who pursued the presidency knowingly and willingly accepted the messes he’d inherit from his predecessor and just cleaned them up? The most accomplished president in US history … Donald Trump.

I believe that many of the problems in our country today stem from single-parent or broken families. There is an old Air Force saying to pilots, “You can stay airborne with just one engine, but you’ll be more comfortable with two engines keeping you in the sky.” The same is true for a two-parent family!
