The Scene Setter
• Michigan begins a four-game homestand starting with Rutgers. It will be the second meeting with the Scarlet Knights this season. Rutgers won the first matchup, 75-67, in early January.
• U-M has not played more than two consecutive games in Ann Arbor this season.
• Hunter Dickinson continues to lead the Wolverines in scoring (18.0) and rebounding (8.1). He has double figures in his last eight games with five of 20+.
• DeVante' Jones has racked up 35 assists (7.0 apg) in his last five games, with a career-best-tying 10 against No. 3 Purdue (Feb. 10). He has added 35 rebounds (7.0 rpg) as well -- with 10, twice -- No. 18 Ohio State (Feb. 12) and Iowa (Feb. 17).
• Eli Brooks has shot 54.7 percent (23-for-42) over his last four games, including 52.2 percent from long range (12-for-23). He has five straight games of double figures with 19 total.
Moving Up to One of the Strongest Schedules
• U-M plays one of the nation's strongest schedules: KenPom (2nd); Sagarin (2nd) and ESPN BPI (3rd).
• U-M has played 14 road games, going 6-8. Adding in the preseason scrimmage at DePaul and an exhibition at Wayne State, U-M has had 16 total road trips this season.
• In U-M's closing five games, all five are return games, four are versus Quad 1 opponents and three are ranked in the top 25 in the nation -- Rutgers (80), No. 15 Illinois (14), Michigan State (28), No. 25 Iowa (19) and at No. 22 Ohio State (18).
The Rutgers Scarlet Knights
• Rutgers (16-10, 10-6 B1G) became the first unranked program to defeat four straight ranked teams. The Scarlet Knights took down No. 13 Michigan State (84-63), No. 16 Ohio State (66-64), at No. 14 Wisconsin (73-65) and No. 12 Illinois (70-59).
• The schedule doesn't get any easier as the Scarlet Knights play three of their final five games at No. 5 Purdue (L, 84-72; Feb. 20), at Michigan (Feb. 23), a rematch with No. 15 Wisconsin (Feb. 26), at Indiana (March 2) before closing with Penn State (March 6).
• Rutgers carries a 3-8 mark in road games with wins at Maryland, Nebraska and Wisconsin. On the flip side, the Scarlet Knights are 13-2 at Jersey Mike's Arena.
• Rutgers is led by its senior trio of Ron Harper Jr. (15.5 ppg), who returned after testing the NBA waters; Geo Baker (12.2 ppg), who returned for the NCAA's extra season and Caleb McConnell (6.4 ppg), who is a true fourth-year senior.
• Harper Jr., who has been bothered by a wrist injury on his non-shooting hand, has a team-best 55 three-pointers. Nearly 45 percent of his offensive shots come from beyond the arc. He adds 6.1 rebounds, 47 assists (1.8 apg) and 30 steals (1.2 spg). Baker is second with 41 three-pointers as nearly 52 percent of his shots are from long range. He adds 88 assists (4.0 apg) and 24 steals. McConnell leads the Big Ten and is seventh nationally with 63 steals (2.4 spg) as he adds 5.0 rebounds and 60 assists (2.3 apg)
• In addition to the Rutgers senior trio, sophomore Clifford Omoruyi sets the pace down low with his 11.6 points, team-best 8.0 rebounds and 33 blocks (1.3 bpg). He leads the team shooting 59.8 percent from the field.
• Junior Paul Mulcahy has continued to serve as the Scarlet Knights distributor with a team-best 143 assists (5.5 apg), which leads the Big Ten and 18th nationally. He adds 9.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
Earlier at Rutgers
• Michigan had four players score in double figures but took a 75-67 loss at Rutgers (Jan. 4) at Jersey Mike's Arena in the Wolverines' first game of the New Year.
• After trailing by as much as 17, the Wolverines climbed back to be down just seven before the Scarlet Knights converted a key late three-pointer and free throws to earn their first-ever win over the Maize and Blue (1-14).
• U-M was without four Wolverines -- Frankie Collins, Jaron Faulds, Brandon Johns Jr. and Terrance Williams II -- as they stayed back in Ann Arbor due to COVID protocols. Before his entrance into the transfer portal, Zeb Jackson also did not make the trip.
• Hunter Dickinson led U-M, producing his fourth 20-point performance with a team-best 25 points, while adding five rebounds and two assists. Eli Brooks added 11 points, seven of which came in the first half, and led with six assists.
• Moussa Diabate (15 points) and Caleb Houstan (12) combined for 27 points. Diabate added a team-best nine rebounds and two steals, while Houstan had eight boards of his own as well as four assists.
