A strong trough continues to bring heavy snow across portions of the Four Corners Thursday into Friday, after heavy snow fell earlier in the week across the Cascades and Northern Rockies. Winter alerts are in effect (above) across Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado. Up to two feet of snow has already been reported in the Wasatch of Utah. Another foot plus of snow is possible across the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico.
Scattered heavy snow will continue to mover around the base of the trough throughout the day, gradually shifting south in Arizona and New Mexico.
Thursday afternoon and evening will see potential for heavy snow across Southern Colorado and Northern New Mexico, where snowfall rates could approach 2 inches per hour in the higher elevations. Expect difficult travel, especially in the mountains passes.
Light snow will linger into Friday morning across New Mexico before tapering off by the afternoon.
Additional snow totals are expect to top a foot (pink shade) in the higher terrain, possibly two feet in the Sangre de Christo mountains. Pockets of 6012 inches of snow are expected in Northern Arizona as well.
