Women's Water Polo | April 1, 2022

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The La Salle women's water polo team is staying home at Kirk Pool to take on some familiar opponents this weekend.

The Explorers are scheduled to face LIU and Saint Francis Brooklyn on Saturday, Apr. 2 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. They will then take on Marist and Siena on Sunday, Apr. 3 at 9 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. All contests will be streamed through YouTube Live

SCOUTING THE EXPLORERS:
  • The Explorers are coming off a 2-2 split from last weekend's events against the same four opponents. La Salle defeated both Saint Francis and Siena, but came up short against LIU and Marist.
  • Emma Gurasich and Caitlin Valentine each saw action in the net last weekend with Valentine totaling a season-high eight saves against Siena.
  • Francesca Co' came away as the NovaCare Student-Athlete of the week based on her stand-out performance across the four contests. The freshman totaled five goals, five assists, and four steals.

SCOUTING THE SHARKS:
  • LIU walked away last weekend with a 4-1 record. The Sharks currently hold a 15-5 overall record.
  • The Sharks battled it out with the Explorers last weekend in a close thriller. LIU put together a 12-goal effort in the second half to come away with the 20-18 victory in the end.
  • LIU's leading scorer on the season is Paola Dominguez with 54 goals.
  • Goalkeeper Julia Zebak comes into the weekend with a .306 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS:
  • The Terriers are exiting last weekend's tournament without a win and are currently riding a six-game losing streak.
  • Saint Francis suffered a tough 11-7 loss to La Salle. Saint Francis didn't allow the Explorers to pull ahead by more than three in the first 24 minutes, eventually bringing the deficit back down to two before heading into the final frame. But a 3-1 fourth-period in favor of La Salle was too much for the Terriers to overcome.
  • Emma Leto is the leading goal scorer for Saint Francis with 24 goals in 16 games.
  • Tate Renata leads in points with 27 on 16 goals and 11 assists.
  • Inbar Geva has seen the most time in the net for the Terriers making 89 saves for a .481 save percentage this season.

SCOUTING THE SAINTS:
  • Siena enters the contest with La Salle following a 0-4 weekend. The Saints have lost their last 12 contests and currently holds a 3-16 record this season.
  • The Saints suffered a shut-out in the final period of the game against La Salle last weekend and fell to the Explorers 16-7.
  • Bianca Prinsloo had three goals for the Saints adding to her total 43 goals on the season.
  • Caroline Behr was in net against the Explorers last time out. She enters this contest with a .361 season save percentage.

SCOUTING THE RED FOXES:
  • Marist came out of last weekend with a 2-2 split. The Red Foxes are currently on a two-game win streak and are 1-3 when visiting their opponents.
  • Marist recorded a 16-10 victory over the Explorers capitalizing on a 6-0 advantage after the first eight minutes of play.
  • India Alter was the leading scorer for the Red Foxes in the contest contributing five goals to Marist's 16 goal total against the Explorers.
  • Goalie Marina Hyham will come face-to-face with her father, La Salle head coach Tom Hyham, and sister, graduate student Kalista Hyham, once again on Sunday. She currently has a .473 save percentage and has made 62 saves across 10 games.
