KENT, OHIO- The Golden Flashes head to the Glass City this weekend for a four-game series with the Toledo Rockets, starting on Friday afternoon.
It is a pivotal weekend for both ball clubs as Kent State currently sits at 7-7 in MAC play and Toledo a half game back at 9-10 in conference.
Kent State is coming off a setback against Pitt on Tuesday night in front of a packed house at Schoonover Stadium. Justin Kirby, Mike McNamara and Mack Timbrook all had multi-hit games and Kyle Jackson cracked his fifth homer of the season. As a team, the Golden Flashes lead the Mid-American Conference with a .294 team batting average.
The Flashes also lead the MAC defensively, posting a team fielding percentage of .978 and have thrown out nearly 30 percent of would-be base stealers this season. It will be strength on strength this weekend as Toledo has stolen 47 bases this season, second in the MAC.
Toledo is hitting .247 as a team and .243 in MAC play. John Servello owns the top average on the team at .313 (.333 in MAC play) while his 13 steals are second in the MAC. Mason Sykes has been the main run producer with 31 runs driven in on the season, good for second in the MAC as are his eight homers.
Pitching has been a strength of the team for the Rockets. Kyle Jones, Connor Brandon and Jordan Power all own earned run averages in the fours in conference play. Jones and Brandon have also averaged over a strikeout per inning against Conference foes.
All four of the games this weekend will be streamed through ESPN 3/+, the links for the streams as well as live stats are available on the baseball schedule page.
Kent State is back home next weekend for a four-game set with the Miami Redhawks. First pitch next Friday night is set for 6 p.m. from Schoonover Stadium.
